{"id":"UBUNTU-CVE-2026-95616","details":"An integer overflow in WSS4J's DER bounds check lets an oversized allocation pass validation. An unauthenticated attacker can send a SOAP message carrying an X.509 certificate whose SubjectKeyIdentifier extension declares a length of 0x7FFFFFFF; WSS4J decodes this while resolving the signature's key reference, before the message is authenticated, so an eleven-byte extension triggers a 2 GB allocation. Repeated requests exhaust server memory. Users are recommended to upgrade to versions 4.0.2 or 3.0.6 or 2.4.4, which fix this issue.","modified":"2026-10-02T22:30:30.091400757Z","published":"2026-10-02T00:00:00Z","upstream":["CVE-2026-95616"],"references":[{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://ubuntu.com/security/CVE-2026-95616"},{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-95616"},{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://lists.apache.org/thread.html/sdf0fsphkg4qbj7nh2brjgwvcmd67hct"},{"type":"REPORT","url":"http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss-security/2026/09/30/14"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"wss4j","ecosystem":"Ubuntu:16.04:LTS","purl":"pkg:deb/ubuntu/wss4j?arch=source&distro=xenial"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"}]}],"versions":["1.6.15-2"],"ecosystem_specific":{"binaries":[{"binary_name":"libwss4j-java","binary_version":"1.6.15-2"}]},"database_specific":{"source":"https://github.com/canonical/ubuntu-security-notices/blob/main/osv/cve/2026/UBUNTU-CVE-2026-95616.json"}},{"package":{"name":"wss4j","ecosystem":"Ubuntu:18.04:LTS","purl":"pkg:deb/ubuntu/wss4j?arch=source&distro=bionic"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"}]}],"versions":["1.6.19-1"],"ecosystem_specific":{"binaries":[{"binary_name":"libwss4j-java","binary_version":"1.6.19-1"}]},"database_specific":{"source":"https://github.com/canonical/ubuntu-security-notices/blob/main/osv/cve/2026/UBUNTU-CVE-2026-95616.json"}},{"package":{"name":"wss4j","ecosystem":"Ubuntu:20.04:LTS","purl":"pkg:deb/ubuntu/wss4j?arch=source&distro=focal"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"}]}],"versions":["1.6.19-2"],"ecosystem_specific":{"binaries":[{"binary_name":"libwss4j-java","binary_version":"1.6.19-2"}]},"database_specific":{"source":"https://github.com/canonical/ubuntu-security-notices/blob/main/osv/cve/2026/UBUNTU-CVE-2026-95616.json"}},{"package":{"name":"wss4j","ecosystem":"Ubuntu:22.04:LTS","purl":"pkg:deb/ubuntu/wss4j?arch=source&distro=jammy"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"}]}],"versions":["1.6.19-2"],"ecosystem_specific":{"binaries":[{"binary_name":"libwss4j-java","binary_version":"1.6.19-2"}]},"database_specific":{"source":"https://github.com/canonical/ubuntu-security-notices/blob/main/osv/cve/2026/UBUNTU-CVE-2026-95616.json"}},{"package":{"name":"wss4j","ecosystem":"Ubuntu:24.04:LTS","purl":"pkg:deb/ubuntu/wss4j?arch=source&distro=noble"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"}]}],"versions":["1.6.19-3"],"ecosystem_specific":{"binaries":[{"binary_name":"libwss4j-java","binary_version":"1.6.19-3"}]},"database_specific":{"source":"https://github.com/canonical/ubuntu-security-notices/blob/main/osv/cve/2026/UBUNTU-CVE-2026-95616.json"}},{"package":{"name":"wss4j","ecosystem":"Ubuntu:26.04:LTS","purl":"pkg:deb/ubuntu/wss4j?arch=source&distro=resolute"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"}]}],"versions":["1.6.19-4","1.6.19-4build1"],"ecosystem_specific":{"binaries":[{"binary_version":"1.6.19-4build1","binary_name":"libwss4j-java"}]},"database_specific":{"source":"https://github.com/canonical/ubuntu-security-notices/blob/main/osv/cve/2026/UBUNTU-CVE-2026-95616.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.9.0","severity":[{"type":"CVSS_V3","score":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H"},{"type":"Ubuntu","score":"medium"}]}
