{"id":"UBUNTU-CVE-2026-91202","details":"A flaw was found in cockpit-files. A low-privileged local user can exploit this vulnerability by crafting a directory containing a symbolic link (symlink) and then using the privileged \"Paste as owner\" function. This allows for arbitrary file ownership changes outside the intended pasted directory, leading to a compromise of data integrity. In some cases, this could also lead to reduced confidentiality if the new ownership grants unauthorized read access. Exploitation requires user interaction to select a non-original owner during the paste operation.","modified":"2026-09-21T21:40:54.764145476Z","published":"2026-09-21T00:00:00Z","upstream":["CVE-2026-91202"],"references":[{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://ubuntu.com/security/CVE-2026-91202"},{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-91202"},{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2465834"},{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2026-91202"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"cockpit-files","ecosystem":"Ubuntu:26.04:LTS","purl":"pkg:deb/ubuntu/cockpit-files?arch=source&distro=resolute"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"}]}],"versions":["36-1","39-1"],"ecosystem_specific":{"binaries":[{"binary_name":"cockpit-files","binary_version":"39-1"}]},"database_specific":{"source":"https://github.com/canonical/ubuntu-security-notices/blob/main/osv/cve/2026/UBUNTU-CVE-2026-91202.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.9.0","severity":[{"type":"CVSS_V3","score":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:L/UI:R/S:U/C:L/I:H/A:L"},{"type":"Ubuntu","score":"medium"}]}
