{"id":"UBUNTU-CVE-2019-19232","details":"In Sudo through 1.8.29, an attacker with access to a Runas ALL sudoer account can impersonate a nonexistent user by invoking sudo with a numeric uid that is not associated with any user. NOTE: The software maintainer believes that this is not a vulnerability because running a command via sudo as a user not present in the local password database is an intentional feature. Because this behavior surprised some users, sudo 1.8.30 introduced an option to enable/disable this behavior with the default being disabled. However, this does not change the fact that sudo was behaving as intended, and as documented, in earlier versions","modified":"2025-09-08T16:45:43Z","published":"2019-12-19T21:15:00Z","upstream":["CVE-2019-19232"],"references":[{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://ubuntu.com/security/CVE-2019-19232"},{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://www.sudo.ws/devel.html#1.8.30b2"},{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://www.sudo.ws/stable.html"},{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2019-19232"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"sudo","ecosystem":"Ubuntu:20.04:LTS","purl":"pkg:deb/ubuntu/sudo@1.8.31-1ubuntu1?arch=source&distro=focal"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"1.8.31-1ubuntu1"}]}],"versions":["1.8.27-1ubuntu4","1.8.29-1ubuntu1"],"ecosystem_specific":{"availability":"No subscription required","binaries":[{"binary_name":"sudo","binary_version":"1.8.31-1ubuntu1"},{"binary_name":"sudo-ldap","binary_version":"1.8.31-1ubuntu1"}]},"database_specific":{"source":"https://github.com/canonical/ubuntu-security-notices/blob/main/osv/cve/2019/UBUNTU-CVE-2019-19232.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.7.3","severity":[{"type":"CVSS_V3","score":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:H/A:N"},{"type":"Ubuntu","score":"low"}]}
