{"id":"UBUNTU-CVE-2018-7161","details":"All versions of Node.js 8.x, 9.x, and 10.x are vulnerable and the severity is HIGH. An attacker can cause a denial of service (DoS) by causing a node server providing an http2 server to crash. This can be accomplished by interacting with the http2 server in a manner that triggers a cleanup bug where objects are used in native code after they are no longer available. This has been addressed by updating the http2 implementation.","modified":"2025-09-08T16:44:47Z","published":"2018-06-13T16:29:00Z","upstream":["CVE-2018-7161"],"references":[{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://ubuntu.com/security/CVE-2018-7161"},{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://nodejs.org/en/blog/vulnerability/june-2018-security-releases/#denial-of-service-vulnerability-in-http-2-cve-2018-7161"},{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://nodejs.org/en/blog/vulnerability/june-2018-security-releases/"},{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2018-7161"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"nodejs","ecosystem":"Ubuntu:18.04:LTS","purl":"pkg:deb/ubuntu/nodejs@8.10.0~dfsg-2ubuntu0.2?arch=source&distro=bionic"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"8.10.0~dfsg-2ubuntu0.2"}]}],"versions":["6.11.4~dfsg-1ubuntu1","6.11.4~dfsg-1ubuntu2","6.12.0~dfsg-1ubuntu1","6.12.0~dfsg-2ubuntu1","6.12.0~dfsg-2ubuntu2","8.10.0~dfsg-2"],"ecosystem_specific":{"binaries":[{"binary_version":"8.10.0~dfsg-2ubuntu0.2","binary_name":"nodejs"},{"binary_version":"8.10.0~dfsg-2ubuntu0.2","binary_name":"nodejs-dev"}],"availability":"No subscription required"},"database_specific":{"source":"https://github.com/canonical/ubuntu-security-notices/blob/main/osv/cve/2018/UBUNTU-CVE-2018-7161.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.7.3","severity":[{"type":"CVSS_V3","score":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H"},{"type":"CVSS_V3","score":"CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H"},{"type":"Ubuntu","score":"medium"}]}
