{"id":"UBUNTU-CVE-2016-2195","details":"Integer overflow in the PointGFp constructor in Botan before 1.10.11 and 1.11.x before 1.11.27 allows remote attackers to overwrite memory and possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted ECC point, which triggers a heap-based buffer overflow. The bigint_mul and bigint_sqr functions received the size of the output buffer, but only used it to dispatch to a faster algorithm in cases where there was sufficient output space to call an unrolled multiplication function. The result is a heap overflow accessible via ECC point decoding, which accepted untrusted inputs. This is likely exploitable for remote code execution.","modified":"2026-04-22T10:36:18.268027Z","published":"2016-05-13T14:59:00Z","upstream":["CVE-2016-2195"],"references":[{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://ubuntu.com/security/CVE-2016-2195"},{"type":"REPORT","url":"http://botan.randombit.net/security.html"},{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2016-2195"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"botan1.10","ecosystem":"Ubuntu:14.04:LTS","purl":"pkg:deb/ubuntu/botan1.10@1.10.5-1+deb7u1ubuntu0.14.04.1?arch=source&distro=trusty"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"1.10.5-1+deb7u1ubuntu0.14.04.1"}]}],"versions":["1.10.5-1","1.10.5-1ubuntu1"],"ecosystem_specific":{"availability":"No subscription required","binaries":[{"binary_version":"1.10.5-1+deb7u1ubuntu0.14.04.1","binary_name":"libbotan-1.10-0"}]},"database_specific":{"source":"https://github.com/canonical/ubuntu-security-notices/blob/main/osv/cve/2016/UBUNTU-CVE-2016-2195.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.7.5","severity":[{"type":"CVSS_V3","score":"CVSS:3.0/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H"},{"type":"Ubuntu","score":"medium"}]}
