{"id":"MGASA-2021-0571","summary":"Updated olm packages fix security vulnerability","details":"Updated olm packages fix security vulnerability:\n\nThe olm_session_describe function in Matrix libolm before 3.2.7 is\nvulnerable to a buffer overflow. The Olm session object represents a\ncryptographic channel between two parties. Therefore, its state is\npartially controllable by the remote party of the channel. Attackers\ncan construct a crafted sequence of messages to manipulate the state\nof the receiver's session in such a way that, for some buffer sizes,\na buffer overflow happens on a call to olm_session_describe.\nFurthermore, safe buffer sizes were undocumented. The overflow content\nis partially controllable by the attacker and limited to ASCII spaces\nand digits (CVE-2021-44538).\n","modified":"2026-02-04T03:51:58.961125Z","published":"2021-12-19T16:13:42Z","related":["CVE-2021-44538"],"references":[{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://advisories.mageia.org/MGASA-2021-0571.html"},{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29773"},{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://matrix.org/blog/2021/12/13/disclosure-buffer-overflow-in-libolm-and-matrix-js-sdk"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"olm","ecosystem":"Mageia:8","purl":"pkg:rpm/mageia/olm?arch=source&distro=mageia-8"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"3.2.1-1.1.mga8"}]}],"ecosystem_specific":{"section":"core"},"database_specific":{"source":"https://advisories.mageia.org/MGASA-2021-0571.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.7.3","credits":[{"name":"Mageia","contact":["https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Packages_Security_Team"],"type":"COORDINATOR"}]}
