{"id":"MGASA-2021-0231","summary":"Updated dnsmasq packages fix a security vulnerability","details":"A flaw was found in dnsmasq in versions before 2.85. When configured to use a specific server for a given network interface, dnsmasq uses a fixed port while forwarding queries. An attacker on the network, able to find the outgoing port used by dnsmasq, only needs to guess the random transmission ID to forge a reply and get it accepted by dnsmasq. This flaw makes a DNS Cache Poisoning attack much easier (CVE-2021-3448).\nThis kind of configuration is the default when network-manager uses dnsmasq.\n","modified":"2026-04-16T04:43:34.555969944Z","published":"2021-06-08T14:33:02Z","upstream":["CVE-2021-3448"],"references":[{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://advisories.mageia.org/MGASA-2021-0231.html"},{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29030"},{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1939368"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/package-announce@lists.fedoraproject.org/thread/GHURNEHHUBSW45KMIZ4FNBCSUPWPGV5V/"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"dnsmasq","ecosystem":"Mageia:7","purl":"pkg:rpm/mageia/dnsmasq?arch=source&distro=mageia-7"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"2.85-1.mga7"}]}],"ecosystem_specific":{"section":"core"},"database_specific":{"source":"https://advisories.mageia.org/MGASA-2021-0231.json"}},{"package":{"name":"dnsmasq","ecosystem":"Mageia:8","purl":"pkg:rpm/mageia/dnsmasq?arch=source&distro=mageia-8"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"2.85-1.mga8"}]}],"ecosystem_specific":{"section":"core"},"database_specific":{"source":"https://advisories.mageia.org/MGASA-2021-0231.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.7.5","credits":[{"name":"Mageia","contact":["https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Packages_Security_Team"],"type":"COORDINATOR"}]}
