{"id":"MAL-2026-4487","summary":"Malicious code in audit-logsss (npm)","details":"\n---\n_-= Per source details. Do not edit below this line.=-_\n\n## Source: amazon-inspector (9f1d266fef23fc79d6af52affefa68c2220baad023d09a7acc4d439a23dfdb69)\nThe package's postinstall script executes shell reconnaissance (`id || ver && whoami && hostname`), fetches the installer's public IP from api.ipify.org, collects USERDOMAIN/COMPANY environment variables, hostname, and cwd, then POSTs the aggregated JSON to an attacker-controlled Project Discovery Interactsh subdomain at `yihpvsviuggxabauqtuedjfyzjlrtkpzx.oast.fun`. The exfiltrated payload self-identifies as `package_name:'audit-logs'` while the published name is `audit-logsss` (triple-s), confirming the package is a deliberate typosquat of the legitimate `audit-logs` package designed to profile any developer who fat-fingers the install command. The beacon fires automatically on `npm install` without user consent.\n\n## Source: ghsa-malware (8563b119c09e79232ca95858f01ae3f76f9ce11b1d0b4fd3dfa3b7490c5d0e73)\nAny computer that has this package installed or running should be considered fully compromised. All secrets and keys stored on that computer should be rotated immediately from a different computer. The package should be removed, but as full control of the computer may have been given to an outside entity, there is no guarantee that removing the package will remove all malicious software resulting from installing it.\n","aliases":["GHSA-gcq4-52q3-v4fm"],"modified":"2026-06-01T10:16:41.674479317Z","published":"2026-05-22T01:19:26Z","database_specific":{"malicious-packages-origins":[{"import_time":"2026-05-26T05:51:57.561154259Z","versions":["8.0.9"],"source":"amazon-inspector","modified_time":"2026-05-22T01:19:27Z","id":"IN-MAL-2026-004110","sha256":"68219c38af36d511d2460f1b656685218fafb9a01f21908c405e2a56a6df0686"},{"import_time":"2026-05-26T05:51:57.443212051Z","versions":["8.0.9"],"source":"amazon-inspector","modified_time":"2026-05-22T01:19:26Z","id":"IN-MAL-2026-004109","sha256":"9f1d266fef23fc79d6af52affefa68c2220baad023d09a7acc4d439a23dfdb69"},{"import_time":"2026-06-01T10:04:39.153173785Z","ranges":[{"events":[{"introduced":"0"}],"type":"SEMVER"}],"source":"ghsa-malware","modified_time":"2026-06-01T09:10:46Z","id":"GHSA-gcq4-52q3-v4fm","sha256":"8563b119c09e79232ca95858f01ae3f76f9ce11b1d0b4fd3dfa3b7490c5d0e73"}]},"references":[{"type":"PACKAGE","url":"https://www.npmjs.com/package/audit-logsss/v/8.0.9"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-gcq4-52q3-v4fm"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"audit-logsss","ecosystem":"npm","purl":"pkg:npm/audit-logsss"},"ranges":[{"type":"SEMVER","events":[{"introduced":"0"}]}],"versions":["8.0.9"],"database_specific":{"cwes":[{"name":"Embedded Malicious Code","description":"The product contains code that appears to be malicious in nature.","cweId":"CWE-506"},{"name":"Embedded Malicious Code","description":"The product contains code that appears to be malicious in nature.","cweId":"CWE-506"}],"source":"https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages/blob/main/osv/malicious/npm/audit-logsss/MAL-2026-4487.json","indicators":{"package_integrity":[{"filename":"audit-logsss-8.0.9.tgz","hashes":{"sha1":"c11355b63c4e85a99c9452de5352d7f9b6e944c4","sha512_sri":"sha512-KhXZrYSFwjs4snlgTDkm1FuGVDJBZlsmcBsdZYrk4HAipnzM/+RsKUU9Bz6x7Mwa9FmAc0R8DjHNk1b8uUG2Rg=="}}],"evidence_files":[{"path":"package.json","sha256":"adcb2a3b0b941b1e87e63e8b4135635248651a0b00ef43e4f83aed687445b020","tlsh":"8e1165f0d594e6b5f7c203e87806e505d5f3ea0511005c70890c1783cb4827017bbadc"}],"domains":["api.ipify.org","yihpvsviuggxabauqtuedjfyzjlrtkpzx.oast.fun"]}}}],"schema_version":"1.7.5","credits":[{"name":"Amazon Inspector","contact":["actran@amazon.com"],"type":"FINDER"}]}
