{"id":"MAL-2026-18100","summary":"Malicious code in unicode-title-normalizer (npm)","details":"\n---\n_-= Per source details. Do not edit below this line.=-_\n\n## Source: amazon-inspector (d0b7fd66ab9bf639779e619823ab3eb75ee795206661fa0472331571e32196ab)\nThe package's npm `install` lifecycle script in package.json (line 11) runs curl against a hardcoded webhook.site collector URL (https://webhook.site/7527749a-4aa3-4727-abb4-fc0ffd8e89ab/workfloou/${{GITHUB_TOKEN}}), appending the installer's GITHUB_TOKEN value to the request path. On `npm install` this sends the CI/installer GitHub token to an anonymous third-party request-bin that is unrelated to the publisher. The shipped code is otherwise a trivial `hello()` stub and the package name (`unicode-title-normalizer`) and description (`Says hello.`) do not correspond to the shipped functionality — the only operative behavior is the install-time credential exfiltration. The GitHub-Actions-style `${{GITHUB_TOKEN}}` templating indicates the payload is designed to detonate inside a GitHub Actions workflow where the token expands to a live CI credential. Package shape is consistent with a typosquat/dependency-confusion lure.\n\n## Source: ghsa-malware (1f059f91bbee6e3b554765f1bbb1abb55ff9cbbb122877db25b00f88ab4f26f7)\nAny computer that has this package installed or running should be considered fully compromised. All secrets and keys stored on that computer should be rotated immediately from a different computer. The package should be removed, but as full control of the computer may have been given to an outside entity, there is no guarantee that removing the package will remove all malicious software resulting from installing it.\n","aliases":["GHSA-66rv-6q99-h89g"],"modified":"2026-10-20T18:30:11.160365039Z","published":"2026-10-20T15:59:30Z","database_specific":{"malicious-packages-origins":[{"import_time":"2026-10-20T16:28:36.610914062Z","modified_time":"2026-10-20T15:59:31Z","ranges":[{"events":[{"introduced":"0"}],"type":"SEMVER"}],"sha256":"1f059f91bbee6e3b554765f1bbb1abb55ff9cbbb122877db25b00f88ab4f26f7","source":"ghsa-malware","id":"GHSA-66rv-6q99-h89g"},{"source":"amazon-inspector","versions":["1.0.0"],"id":"IN-MAL-2026-021530","import_time":"2026-10-20T18:22:19.505157958Z","modified_time":"2026-10-20T18:16:29Z","sha256":"d0b7fd66ab9bf639779e619823ab3eb75ee795206661fa0472331571e32196ab"}]},"references":[{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-66rv-6q99-h89g"},{"type":"PACKAGE","url":"https://www.npmjs.com/package/unicode-title-normalizer/v/1.0.0"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"unicode-title-normalizer","ecosystem":"npm","purl":"pkg:npm/unicode-title-normalizer"},"ranges":[{"type":"SEMVER","events":[{"introduced":"0"}]}],"versions":["1.0.0"],"database_specific":{"indicators":{"evidence_files":[{"tlsh":"e3e026318612042312c8e2901db1dd8656939a2f048038099b4b9528d99977a4cff37d","path":"package.json","sha256":"34d796dd6b6e7be461c50b82eea80ed41f67a001a6a918af8cb90ab2f71e720f"}]},"source":"https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages/blob/main/osv/malicious/npm/unicode-title-normalizer/MAL-2026-18100.json","cwes":[{"name":"Embedded Malicious Code","cweId":"CWE-506","description":"The product contains code that appears to be malicious in nature."},{"cweId":"CWE-506","description":"The product contains code that appears to be malicious in nature.","name":"Embedded Malicious Code"}]}}],"schema_version":"1.9.0","credits":[{"name":"Amazon Inspector","contact":["inspector-research@amazon.com"],"type":"FINDER"}]}
