{"id":"MAL-2026-17536","summary":"Malicious code in @angulaar/cli (npm)","details":"\n---\n_-= Per source details. Do not edit below this line.=-_\n\n## Source: amazon-inspector (33d4a58c855f9b549d39f194483ee19730552bbb47a279f73237c8a403708d20)\nPackage name '@angulaar/cli' (double 'a') is a one-character edit of '@angular/cli'; README, LICENSE headers, and source files are copied verbatim from the real Angular CLI (Google LLC copyright, angular.dev license URLs, README pointing issues to github.com/angular/angular-cli). The manifest's dependencies list has been altered from the upstream package: real @angular/cli depends on '@modelcontextprotocol/sdk', while this package declares '@modelcontextprotocol/server': '2.0.0' and requires it from src/commands/mcp/cli.js and mcp-server.js. '@modelcontextprotocol/server' is not the official MCP package name, so npm install resolves and installs whatever bytes are published under that attacker-chosen name/version, executing any lifecycle scripts in that dependency on the installer's host and loading its code in-process on later `ng mcp` invocations. The lookalike package name, cloned source, and swapped MCP dependency together form a dependency-confusion delivery vector against developers who mistype the real @angular/cli name.\n","modified":"2026-10-05T04:15:05.054765483Z","published":"2026-10-05T03:31:30Z","database_specific":{"malicious-packages-origins":[{"import_time":"2026-10-05T03:57:36.961456459Z","modified_time":"2026-10-05T03:31:30Z","sha256":"33d4a58c855f9b549d39f194483ee19730552bbb47a279f73237c8a403708d20","source":"amazon-inspector","versions":["22.2.1"],"id":"IN-MAL-2026-020988"}]},"references":[{"type":"PACKAGE","url":"https://www.npmjs.com/package/@angulaar/cli/v/22.2.1"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"@angulaar/cli","ecosystem":"npm","purl":"pkg:npm/%40angulaar/cli"},"versions":["22.2.1"],"database_specific":{"cwes":[{"description":"The product contains code that appears to be malicious in nature.","name":"Embedded Malicious Code","cweId":"CWE-506"}],"indicators":{"evidence_files":[{"sha256":"e328e61beada6cb9eb1c9392e96a61d0a17c57cf5a79405e490743d6c1caed5f","tlsh":"fc315976d6e01d6306d9178098360903643c963f0e06fab8f79c550c4f8f69f2277aae","path":"package.json"}],"package_integrity":[{"hashes":{"sha1":"0f040f20b3935706461bcbb479f2d693b10af56a","sha512_sri":"sha512-J7AyMrtLCZmsXS1pptYxEmGPBT+S7uQEUDglSCC96T2HtpJICh3IBuJELtQZ8t/yd6Dg2uBplrOsHpfW9XCwLA=="},"filename":"cli-22.2.1.tgz"}]},"source":"https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages/blob/main/osv/malicious/npm/@angulaar/cli/MAL-2026-17536.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.9.0","credits":[{"name":"Amazon Inspector","contact":["inspector-research@amazon.com"],"type":"FINDER"}]}
