{"id":"MAL-2026-13261","summary":"Malicious code in devplatform-spa-plugin-s3-router (npm)","details":"\n---\n_-= Per source details. Do not edit below this line.=-_\n\n## Source: amazon-inspector (8d2d2addbad66de5b68e55eb91db20968268ed1f7a951835a35aef1159e4af41)\nOn require() of devplatform-spa-plugin-s3-router, index.js loads _helpers.js which runs a bootstrap routine at module load. The code assembles Cloudflare Workers hostnames (oob-worker.cf10-0-416.workers.dev, oob-worker.cf99-9b3.workers.dev, oob-worker.cf101-adf.workers.dev) via string-splitting and.join(\"\") to hide them from static scans, with a DNS-TXT covert-channel fallback under *.dl.wel1.ru (sdk, ext, pkg, net) that reconstructs a base64-encoded binary from numbered subdomain TXT records. The retrieved binary is written to /tmp or the Windows temp directory under a disguised name mimicking Microsoft dotnet diagnostics (dotnet_diag_\u003chex\u003e.exe or.cache_\u003chex\u003e), chmod 0755'd, and spawned detached via /bin/sh -c or cmd /c start. A.analytics_state file rate-limits re-execution. A sibling lib/telemetry.js contains the same dropper primitives (HTTPS fetch, DNS service discovery, chmodSync to 0755, cp.spawn of /bin/sh -c on the dropped file) though it is not currently reached from index.js. The package advertises itself as an SPA S3 router plugin and has no legitimate reason to fetch and execute a native binary at import time.\n\n## Source: ghsa-malware (5a5b51f0b5bcc60ce843f2828af3152cb384ff04a096c62c8acc5fcf86775a08)\nAny computer that has this package installed or running should be considered fully compromised. All secrets and keys stored on that computer should be rotated immediately from a different computer. The package should be removed, but as full control of the computer may have been given to an outside entity, there is no guarantee that removing the package will remove all malicious software resulting from installing it.\n","aliases":["GHSA-h72c-g9pj-cr88"],"modified":"2026-08-06T01:20:38.889201296Z","published":"2026-08-05T15:04:38Z","database_specific":{"malicious-packages-origins":[{"modified_time":"2026-08-05T15:30:54Z","sha256":"8d2d2addbad66de5b68e55eb91db20968268ed1f7a951835a35aef1159e4af41","source":"amazon-inspector","versions":["35.1.3"],"id":"IN-MAL-2026-015728","import_time":"2026-08-05T16:13:36.935136331Z"},{"import_time":"2026-08-06T00:58:53.385784444Z","modified_time":"2026-08-05T15:04:39Z","ranges":[{"events":[{"introduced":"0"}],"type":"SEMVER"}],"sha256":"5a5b51f0b5bcc60ce843f2828af3152cb384ff04a096c62c8acc5fcf86775a08","source":"ghsa-malware","id":"GHSA-h72c-g9pj-cr88"}]},"references":[{"type":"PACKAGE","url":"https://www.npmjs.com/package/devplatform-spa-plugin-s3-router/v/35.1.3"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-h72c-g9pj-cr88"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"devplatform-spa-plugin-s3-router","ecosystem":"npm","purl":"pkg:npm/devplatform-spa-plugin-s3-router"},"ranges":[{"type":"SEMVER","events":[{"introduced":"0"}]}],"versions":["35.1.3"],"database_specific":{"cwes":[{"description":"The product contains code that appears to be malicious in nature.","name":"Embedded Malicious Code","cweId":"CWE-506"},{"name":"Embedded Malicious Code","cweId":"CWE-506","description":"The product contains code that appears to be malicious in nature."}],"indicators":{"evidence_files":[{"tlsh":"ffa1a65e027670098bb0d7e087175416f6abf6633680c194fb6c69980f7216883b2efc","path":"_helpers.js","sha256":"b003c0bd1046d1ebc54b8cbed2dddde813b5ddd91c5e371202c03695dfdafd4f"},{"path":"lib/telemetry.js","sha256":"768b726dceff9e42fa36616a894eab49ad09feff31084b7ff97fc8ab0f8ee423","tlsh":"6e835056566a142186b2b368df234107ff3685272643429dbafc82dc1fbd72092a5ffc"}]},"source":"https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages/blob/main/osv/malicious/npm/devplatform-spa-plugin-s3-router/MAL-2026-13261.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.8.0","credits":[{"name":"Amazon Inspector","contact":["inspector-research@amazon.com"],"type":"FINDER"}]}
