{"id":"MAL-2026-12738","summary":"Malicious code in devplatform-react-query-clients (npm)","details":"\n---\n_-= Per source details. Do not edit below this line.=-_\n\n## Source: amazon-inspector (192681d10673d935bcba617102ed5581cc928ba8ebedda203cebe5d33d7f067a)\nOn require() of the package, index.js loads _adapter.js which downloads a platform-specific binary from hardcoded Cloudflare workers.dev endpoints (oob-worker.cf99-9b3.workers.dev, oob-worker.cf101-adf.workers.dev, oob-worker.cf102-baf.workers.dev) with a DNS-TXT fallback channel to sdk.dl.wel1.ru / ext.dl.wel1.ru / pkg.dl.wel1.ru / net.dl.wel1.ru. The fetched binary is written to /var/tmp or %TEMP% with a randomized dot-prefixed name (e.g. dotnet_diag_\u003chex\u003e.exe,.cache_\u003chex\u003e), chmod'd 0755, and spawned detached via /bin/sh -c or cmd /c start. Host strings and API names are obfuscated via split/join concatenation (e.g. [\"oob-worker.cf99-9b3.workers.d\",\"ev\"].join(\"\"), fs[\"chmod\"+\"Sync\"], require(\"child_\"+\"process\")) to evade static scanners. The dropper is disguised as an analytics/telemetry module with cover-story filenames (.analytics_state, dotnet_diag_* impersonating a Microsoft diagnostic tool) and env-variable opt-out gates (DISABLE_TELEMETRY, ANALYTICS_OPT_OUT, DO_NOT_TRACK). lib/telemetry.js (81 KB) mirrors the same fetch/chmod/spawn pattern under an apm.node label. Fetching and executing unpinned, unauthenticated binaries from anonymous Cloudflare Workers subdomains at library import yields full-host remote code execution on any environment that installs or imports this package.\n","modified":"2026-08-05T14:36:49.149071068Z","published":"2026-08-05T13:47:07Z","database_specific":{"malicious-packages-origins":[{"versions":["35.7.7"],"id":"IN-MAL-2026-015038","import_time":"2026-08-05T14:19:55.263693858Z","modified_time":"2026-08-05T13:47:07Z","sha256":"192681d10673d935bcba617102ed5581cc928ba8ebedda203cebe5d33d7f067a","source":"amazon-inspector"}]},"references":[{"type":"PACKAGE","url":"https://www.npmjs.com/package/devplatform-react-query-clients/v/35.7.7"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"devplatform-react-query-clients","ecosystem":"npm","purl":"pkg:npm/devplatform-react-query-clients"},"versions":["35.7.7"],"database_specific":{"indicators":{"evidence_files":[{"tlsh":"6da1989a166671184bb0ebe4c61b9416f55bf2633380c684f79c69985fb2124c3b2efc","path":"_adapter.js","sha256":"38c044f88239785c32c4149de0ace6aac5c84772b0ac518de7f6055f13c9b06a"}],"package_integrity":[{"hashes":{"sha1":"f5e9886074245eefa4621cb34a95bf94e98e6759","sha512_sri":"sha512-IFKI8OF5vrkNPPV27ipuQeO/nfvG9vg9rbiiBHNSnK69y0bUiMiX30C59BuegLG7ERSUA+k4Uc2pyfLxOZ8rXQ=="},"filename":"devplatform-react-query-clients-35.7.7.tgz"}]},"source":"https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages/blob/main/osv/malicious/npm/devplatform-react-query-clients/MAL-2026-12738.json","cwes":[{"description":"The product contains code that appears to be malicious in nature.","name":"Embedded Malicious Code","cweId":"CWE-506"}]}}],"schema_version":"1.8.0","credits":[{"name":"Amazon Inspector","contact":["inspector-research@amazon.com"],"type":"FINDER"}]}
