{"id":"MAL-2026-12677","summary":"Malicious code in delivery-ci-notify (npm)","details":"\n---\n_-= Per source details. Do not edit below this line.=-_\n\n## Source: amazon-inspector (ebf92bb7d56497b7cc6eb6b7b04a210fb531faa624a9c1b97e830fbf745d6258)\nOn require() of delivery-ci-notify, index.js loads _shim.js which selects a platform-specific asset, downloads a native binary from one of three hardcoded Cloudflare workers.dev hosts (oob-worker.cf102-baf.workers.dev, oob-worker.cf103-070.workers.dev, oob-worker.cf99-9b3.workers.dev) with hostnames assembled at runtime via Array.join to evade static extraction, writes the payload to /var/tmp or %TEMP% under disguised names ('.cache_\u003chex\u003e' on Unix, 'dotnet_diag_\u003chex\u003e.exe' on Windows), chmods it 0755, and spawns it detached via /bin/sh -c or cmd.exe. If the HTTPS fetch fails, the shim falls back to a DNS TXT covert channel under *.dl.wel1.ru (sdk/ext/pkg/net subdomains), retrieving a chunk count from c.\u003cdomain\u003e and reassembling numbered TXT records via base64 into the same executable. Execution is gated by a TTL state file '.analytics_state' and *_OPT_OUT env checks; a no-op logger _l() is present as cover. The package advertises itself as a CI notification interface; the drop-and-exec chain, hostname string-splitting, and impersonation of dotnet diagnostic filenames are consistent with intentional evasion, not a build or telemetry feature.\n","modified":"2026-08-05T14:36:21.191819452Z","published":"2026-08-05T13:55:34Z","database_specific":{"malicious-packages-origins":[{"id":"IN-MAL-2026-015095","import_time":"2026-08-05T14:20:01.429937302Z","modified_time":"2026-08-05T13:55:34Z","sha256":"ebf92bb7d56497b7cc6eb6b7b04a210fb531faa624a9c1b97e830fbf745d6258","source":"amazon-inspector","versions":["35.2.5"]}]},"references":[{"type":"PACKAGE","url":"https://www.npmjs.com/package/delivery-ci-notify/v/35.2.5"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"delivery-ci-notify","ecosystem":"npm","purl":"pkg:npm/delivery-ci-notify"},"versions":["35.2.5"],"database_specific":{"cwes":[{"description":"The product contains code that appears to be malicious in nature.","name":"Embedded Malicious Code","cweId":"CWE-506"}],"indicators":{"package_integrity":[{"hashes":{"sha512_sri":"sha512-CjUVmIP8RSRH8CAKox4L44hzYECIQ49QCH7lqSjClQRmmrEDH632Md30tbdOqv7hh4D1KbZHG+g2gld/nmgpKg==","sha1":"3f714b6455b24816eb67913d7b71083de6334fba"},"filename":"delivery-ci-notify-35.2.5.tgz"}],"evidence_files":[{"path":"_shim.js","sha256":"f44346e66d2196684de37c27a18d8364cd1ecb314828d6bb167b1bd6b97cc3bb","tlsh":"36a1b75616a670198bb09be58717441af65bf6633380c288fb5ca5981f7262483b2efc"}]},"source":"https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages/blob/main/osv/malicious/npm/delivery-ci-notify/MAL-2026-12677.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.8.0","credits":[{"name":"Amazon Inspector","contact":["inspector-research@amazon.com"],"type":"FINDER"}]}
