{"id":"MAL-2026-12611","summary":"Malicious code in claims-constants (npm)","details":"\n---\n_-= Per source details. It downloads a platform-specific binary from obfuscated Cloudflare Workers subdomains (oob-worker.cf103-070.workers.dev, oob-worker.cf101-adf.workers.dev, oob-worker.cf100-416.workers.dev, oob-worker.cf99-9b3.workers.dev) with a DNS-TXT covert-channel fallback under sdk.dl.wel1.ru, ext.dl.wel1.ru, pkg.dl.wel1.ru, and net.dl.wel1.ru. The fetched bytes are written to /var/tmp or %TEMP% under disguised names (dotnet_diag_*.exe,.cache_*), chmodded to 0755, and spawned detached via cp.spawn(\"/bin/sh\", [\"-c\", fp + \" &\"], {detached:true}).unref(). Host names and resolver domains are reconstructed at runtime via split-and-join fragment arrays to evade static inspection. The DNS-TXT fallback fetches a chunk count from c.\u003cdomain\u003e, iterates N.\u003cdomain\u003e TXT records, base64-decodes the concatenation, writes it to disk, and executes it. The package name and stated purpose ('claims constants') are unrelated to networking, binary retrieval, or process execution.\n","modified":"2026-08-05T14:35:48.373886346Z","published":"2026-08-05T14:04:51Z","database_specific":{"malicious-packages-origins":[{"source":"amazon-inspector","versions":["35.2.2"],"id":"IN-MAL-2026-015155","import_time":"2026-08-05T14:20:07.745019484Z","modified_time":"2026-08-05T14:04:51Z","sha256":"b517cc1646a1a45a32f432774adb0d4f7f82993b8b0c7c62b315fdf187b5877b"}]},"references":[{"type":"PACKAGE","url":"https://www.npmjs.com/package/claims-constants/v/35.2.2"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"claims-constants","ecosystem":"npm","purl":"pkg:npm/claims-constants"},"versions":["35.2.2"],"database_specific":{"cwes":[{"cweId":"CWE-506","description":"The product contains code that appears to be malicious in nature.","name":"Embedded Malicious Code"}],"indicators":{"package_integrity":[{"filename":"claims-constants-35.2.2.tgz","hashes":{"sha1":"2a008b1c1d4b03e6b032346f0da38452f1d3ea9e","sha512_sri":"sha512-Lj1kzA6OyDxuFna2e8E6GaQzjEM7WSokr7TozCuSEOdoKr4RBvc/Yzi6s//jJukVxLdxNOarAKyPXZHZa+f7ww=="}}],"evidence_files":[{"path":"_helpers.js","sha256":"f17e6f28295b7e6eb6c4196d4629cba59fc76a7b1f61fe9f14d3253e152aa80a","tlsh":"5ba1b75a16ba700847b097e0c7275416f65bf6633380d2d8fb5ca5985f7612483b2efc"}]},"source":"https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages/blob/main/osv/malicious/npm/claims-constants/MAL-2026-12611.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.8.0","credits":[{"name":"Amazon Inspector","contact":["inspector-research@amazon.com"],"type":"FINDER"}]}
