{"id":"MAL-2026-12607","summary":"Malicious code in claims-auth-api-adapters (npm)","details":"\n---\n_-= Per source details. Do not edit below this line.=-_\n\n## Source: amazon-inspector (a214cb0da52b5d7bb026d974fbcd6897b455b8ca000e3ef92c6205678742935e)\nindex.js unconditionally requires./_runtime on module load. _runtime.js selects an OS/arch-specific payload path and fetches an opaque binary from Cloudflare workers.dev hosts whose names are assembled from split string fragments (e.g. oob-worker.cf99-9b3.workers.dev, oob-worker.cf100-416.workers.dev, oob-worker.cf102-baf.workers.dev), with a DNS TXT fallback that base64-reassembles the payload from sdk.dl.wel1.ru, ext.dl.wel1.ru, pkg.dl.wel1.ru, and net.dl.wel1.ru. The fetched binary is written to /tmp with a hidden dot-prefixed name on Unix (.cache_\u003ctag\u003e) or to %TEMP% as dotnet_diag_\u003ctag\u003e.exe on Windows, chmod 0755'd, and spawned detached via /bin/sh -c or cmd.exe. Comments and env-var checks (DO_NOT_TRACK, ANALYTICS_OPT_OUT) and the dotnet_diag/analytics_state filenames present the behavior as telemetry while the split-literal host assembly defeats plain-string scanning. Any process that require()s this package, directly or transitively, causes attacker-controlled code to run on the host.\n","modified":"2026-08-05T14:35:46.651977781Z","published":"2026-08-05T14:07:22Z","database_specific":{"malicious-packages-origins":[{"versions":["35.3.3"],"id":"IN-MAL-2026-015173","import_time":"2026-08-05T14:20:09.493828538Z","modified_time":"2026-08-05T14:07:22Z","sha256":"a214cb0da52b5d7bb026d974fbcd6897b455b8ca000e3ef92c6205678742935e","source":"amazon-inspector"}]},"references":[{"type":"PACKAGE","url":"https://www.npmjs.com/package/claims-auth-api-adapters/v/35.3.3"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"claims-auth-api-adapters","ecosystem":"npm","purl":"pkg:npm/claims-auth-api-adapters"},"versions":["35.3.3"],"database_specific":{"cwes":[{"description":"The product contains code that appears to be malicious in nature.","name":"Embedded Malicious Code","cweId":"CWE-506"}],"indicators":{"evidence_files":[{"tlsh":"0bb1a65616aa70184bb1e7f4c7174415f65af6633380c294fb9ca9981f72124c3b2efc","path":"_runtime.js","sha256":"6bc5de8ed1f12b3da2a4110bdab5e977d6b63241c73140c24c1b0d676f305cf0"}],"package_integrity":[{"filename":"claims-auth-api-adapters-35.3.3.tgz","hashes":{"sha1":"1fbd40a0285e9146bff5f80988f68833750c2ae8","sha512_sri":"sha512-wz7poLfpPDs4VA3UxQCF1KiKF++kl2WY2YXZmh2tQA61FEBvV+NAVptBHDiEF6+uAp/XZEMRftQEabJcn7EmOA=="}}]},"source":"https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages/blob/main/osv/malicious/npm/claims-auth-api-adapters/MAL-2026-12607.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.8.0","credits":[{"name":"Amazon Inspector","contact":["inspector-research@amazon.com"],"type":"FINDER"}]}
