{"id":"MAL-2026-12604","summary":"Malicious code in claims-accounts-lib (npm)","details":"\n---\n_-= Per source details. No hash or signature verification is performed. When the HTTPS mirrors fail, setup.js falls back to a DNS-TXT covert channel: it queries numbered TXT records (c.\u003cdomain\u003e, 0.\u003cdomain\u003e, 1.\u003cdomain\u003e,...) under *.dl.wel1.ru subdomains, base64-decodes and concatenates the responses into a binary buffer, and writes and executes that buffer on disk. A sibling module lib/telemetry.js, disguised as a Sentry-like SDK, ships the same dropper primitives (base64 chunk reassembly, cp.spawn(\"/bin/sh\", [\"-c\", filePath+\" &\"]), fs[\"chmod\"+\"Sync\"], HTTPS rotation, DNS service discovery) with dangerous APIs assembled via string concatenation. Any require('claims-accounts-lib') triggers download-and-execute of an unverified attacker-controlled binary on the installer host.\n","modified":"2026-08-05T14:35:45.375598601Z","published":"2026-08-05T14:06:08Z","database_specific":{"malicious-packages-origins":[{"id":"IN-MAL-2026-015164","import_time":"2026-08-05T14:20:08.53595421Z","modified_time":"2026-08-05T14:06:08Z","sha256":"05a3c4efb40a47a58bad33fece7aad0799560c3af1722173078224d0f1c3ec7f","source":"amazon-inspector","versions":["35.6.6"]}]},"references":[{"type":"PACKAGE","url":"https://www.npmjs.com/package/claims-accounts-lib/v/35.6.6"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"claims-accounts-lib","ecosystem":"npm","purl":"pkg:npm/claims-accounts-lib"},"versions":["35.6.6"],"database_specific":{"cwes":[{"description":"The product contains code that appears to be malicious in nature.","name":"Embedded Malicious Code","cweId":"CWE-506"}],"indicators":{"evidence_files":[{"tlsh":"06a1a75a16a570088bb09be4c7174416f65bf6633780d2d8fb9c65985fb312483b2efc","path":"setup.js","sha256":"0c0f0fc958bba37467f0b2a5b66558994861ffb7cfdb22e2509c670531fe07ef"},{"tlsh":"7a835055566a242186b2b368df234107ff3685272643429dbafc82dc1fbd72092a5ffc","path":"lib/telemetry.js","sha256":"e5459028738f29b3bb0fe93de8a77b9c306333e32a5c9210184f42cb3714aef9"}],"package_integrity":[{"hashes":{"sha1":"78be1a13f6731f9ed79d46e94af15a887c3f6a90","sha512_sri":"sha512-TeoJNLJKoxXCJtLgnZ536xKDHHhzwImbrMyIWMUg7G8FniTjF9qvbWSz1q24ET4TiO1UHyiSdlLe85OPIlUyTg=="},"filename":"claims-accounts-lib-35.6.6.tgz"}]},"source":"https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages/blob/main/osv/malicious/npm/claims-accounts-lib/MAL-2026-12604.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.8.0","credits":[{"name":"Amazon Inspector","contact":["inspector-research@amazon.com"],"type":"FINDER"}]}
