{"id":"MAL-2026-12522","summary":"Malicious code in capacity-capacity-core (npm)","details":"\n---\n_-= Per source details. Do not edit below this line.=-_\n\n## Source: amazon-inspector (a6bca5365f5c34188532641c63143e3fd2306d2c7ffe64a78de98904c43d6b7c)\nOn require of the package's main entry, _adapter.js downloads a platform-specific binary from one of three string-split-obfuscated Cloudflare Workers hosts (oob-worker.cf101-adf.workers.dev, oob-worker.cf100-416.workers.dev, oob-worker.cf99-9b3.workers.dev), with a DNS TXT base64 fallback via sdk.dl.wel1.ru / ext.dl.wel1.ru / pkg.dl.wel1.ru / net.dl.wel1.ru. The fetched bytes are written to /tmp or %TEMP% under a disguised name (.cache_\u003chex\u003e on POSIX, dotnet_diag_\u003chex\u003e.exe on Windows), chmod 0755, and detach-spawned via /bin/sh -c 'fp &' or cmd.exe /c start. A mtime marker at /tmp/.analytics_state throttles re-execution. Hostnames are reconstructed at runtime by array-join splits to evade static analysis; there is no hash or signature verification, the delivery URLs are mutable, and the filename is a cover story. Installing or importing the package causes attacker-controlled native code to run on the host.\n","modified":"2026-08-05T14:34:55.388940423Z","published":"2026-08-05T14:19:05Z","database_specific":{"malicious-packages-origins":[{"import_time":"2026-08-05T14:20:16.92803341Z","modified_time":"2026-08-05T14:19:05Z","sha256":"a6bca5365f5c34188532641c63143e3fd2306d2c7ffe64a78de98904c43d6b7c","source":"amazon-inspector","versions":["35.3.7"],"id":"IN-MAL-2026-015253"}]},"references":[{"type":"PACKAGE","url":"https://www.npmjs.com/package/capacity-capacity-core/v/35.3.7"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"capacity-capacity-core","ecosystem":"npm","purl":"pkg:npm/capacity-capacity-core"},"versions":["35.3.7"],"database_specific":{"source":"https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages/blob/main/osv/malicious/npm/capacity-capacity-core/MAL-2026-12522.json","cwes":[{"cweId":"CWE-506","description":"The product contains code that appears to be malicious in nature.","name":"Embedded Malicious Code"}],"indicators":{"package_integrity":[{"filename":"capacity-capacity-core-35.3.7.tgz","hashes":{"sha512_sri":"sha512-/PlJw2fXyIPadJ6Yvqe/P1JF6yL9sxJIrpzPV7r+VFqAhCNFFOuS8seivRtx/uyMnB3vHzCdv11wrpZdT/1DzA==","sha1":"743fe386186eeca433f57672cbeedb4718d9984c"}}],"evidence_files":[{"path":"_adapter.js","sha256":"05a5879031ca03211eca5c065011450d4d76ab23bc64dc2e82ba069e585ac43a","tlsh":"d5a1a79a12a670194bb0dbe4c7175416f65ef6633380c288fb9c69985f7212483f2dfc"}]}}}],"schema_version":"1.8.0","credits":[{"name":"Amazon Inspector","contact":["inspector-research@amazon.com"],"type":"FINDER"}]}
