{"id":"MAL-2026-12408","summary":"Malicious code in pfp-block-independent-iframe (npm)","details":"\n---\n_-= Per source details. Do not edit below this line.=-_\n\n## Source: amazon-inspector (2145fdce1d6879c4b5bd3682bf9b8e7c386f3f80f15721c26fe6bd2638564185)\nOn require of the package, index.js loads _bootstrap.js, which selects a platform-specific payload path, fetches bytes from one of four string-obfuscated Cloudflare Workers hostnames (oob-worker.cf99-9b3.workers.dev, oob-worker.cf100-416.workers.dev, oob-worker.cf101-adf.workers.dev, oob-worker.cf102-baf.workers.dev) with a DNS-TXT base64-reassembly fallback via *.dl.well1.site, writes the bytes to /var/tmp/.cache_\u003chex\u003e or %TEMP%\\dotnet_diag_\u003chex\u003e.exe, chmods 0755, and spawns the file detached via /bin/sh -c or cmd /c start. Hostnames are reconstructed at runtime from split fragments joined with.join(\"\"); no hash or signature verification is performed; filenames are disguised as OS diagnostic artifacts; and cover-story comments frame the traffic as analytics/telemetry with opt-out env vars. The tarball additionally ships an unreferenced lib/telemetry.js (~81KB) implementing the same chunked-base64 -\u003e chmod 755 -\u003e spawn /bin/sh -c primitive under an 'analytics SDK' framing.\n\n## Source: ghsa-malware (8afab21233c95b25115b15ecca1c2db5f3d03aaac132d89443c4836cc4d68093)\nAny computer that has this package installed or running should be considered fully compromised. All secrets and keys stored on that computer should be rotated immediately from a different computer. The package should be removed, but as full control of the computer may have been given to an outside entity, there is no guarantee that removing the package will remove all malicious software resulting from installing it.\n","aliases":["GHSA-6phh-35j9-99qj"],"modified":"2026-08-06T01:21:08.019233980Z","published":"2026-08-05T12:37:05Z","database_specific":{"malicious-packages-origins":[{"sha256":"2145fdce1d6879c4b5bd3682bf9b8e7c386f3f80f15721c26fe6bd2638564185","source":"amazon-inspector","versions":["20.4.9"],"id":"IN-MAL-2026-014730","import_time":"2026-08-05T13:08:41.613020172Z","modified_time":"2026-08-05T12:37:05Z"},{"import_time":"2026-08-06T00:58:53.305243652Z","modified_time":"2026-08-05T15:02:58Z","ranges":[{"events":[{"introduced":"0"}],"type":"SEMVER"}],"sha256":"8afab21233c95b25115b15ecca1c2db5f3d03aaac132d89443c4836cc4d68093","source":"ghsa-malware","id":"GHSA-6phh-35j9-99qj"}]},"references":[{"type":"PACKAGE","url":"https://www.npmjs.com/package/pfp-block-independent-iframe/v/20.4.9"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-6phh-35j9-99qj"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"pfp-block-independent-iframe","ecosystem":"npm","purl":"pkg:npm/pfp-block-independent-iframe"},"ranges":[{"type":"SEMVER","events":[{"introduced":"0"}]}],"versions":["20.4.9"],"database_specific":{"indicators":{"evidence_files":[{"sha256":"8832589571a944829cf79db31d3987fa70cd9bd6f6cad6a02d2c91309e09e8c9","tlsh":"bab1849b166971184bb0ebe5ca174815f657f65333808285fb6ca8941fb326482b3ffc","path":"_bootstrap.js"},{"tlsh":"e4835055566a242186b2b368df234107ff3685272642429dbafc82dc1fbd72092a5ffc","path":"lib/telemetry.js","sha256":"3e8905833d003224a83bf7c2f75d0c6ad29505d7f43bfd731bb3eaf8bd3df20c"}],"package_integrity":[{"filename":"pfp-block-independent-iframe-20.4.9.tgz","hashes":{"sha1":"a7b457eedb0b2ada8e3c64ef8f63593427d181dc","sha512_sri":"sha512-eZJn+DzHpVIlYlsoKQAEdEGA6ssAWBErUB99wAz4f8Tz0Pmqs2JojVcjk+ExtYtdZx635IiliX6w9N7dOIQFug=="}}]},"source":"https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages/blob/main/osv/malicious/npm/pfp-block-independent-iframe/MAL-2026-12408.json","cwes":[{"cweId":"CWE-506","description":"The product contains code that appears to be malicious in nature.","name":"Embedded Malicious Code"},{"cweId":"CWE-506","description":"The product contains code that appears to be malicious in nature.","name":"Embedded Malicious Code"}]}}],"schema_version":"1.8.0","credits":[{"name":"Amazon Inspector","contact":["inspector-research@amazon.com"],"type":"FINDER"}]}
