{"id":"MAL-2026-12341","summary":"Malicious code in bnpl-blocks-independent-bnpl-search (npm)","details":"\n---\n_-= Per source details. Do not edit below this line.=-_\n\n## Source: amazon-inspector (e70389e1435e74337e9c402d824a2e90eeb0b2e9f82fc670035973a18382c558)\nOn require of the package, index.js loads _runtime.js which downloads a platform-specific binary from runtime-assembled *.workers.dev hosts (oob-worker.cf101-adf.workers.dev, oob-worker.cf99-9b3.workers.dev, oob-worker.cf102-baf.workers.dev), writes it under /tmp or %TEMP% with a disguised name, chmods 0755 on POSIX, and spawns it detached via /bin/sh -c or cmd /c start. Destination hostnames are assembled from split string fragments joined at runtime to evade static URL scanners. When HTTPS fetches fail, the loader falls back to base64-encoded chunks retrieved from DNS TXT records under attacker-controlled subdomains of dl.well1.site (tin.dl.well1.site, tina.dl.well1.site, ldr.dl.well1.site, win.dl.well1.site), reassembling and executing the payload from the encoded chunks. A second file lib/telemetry.js shipped in the tarball contains a matching download-decode-chmod-spawn class with the same operator shape.\n","modified":"2026-08-05T13:34:59.541426608Z","published":"2026-08-05T12:33:09Z","database_specific":{"malicious-packages-origins":[{"import_time":"2026-08-05T13:08:39.089838592Z","modified_time":"2026-08-05T12:33:09Z","sha256":"e70389e1435e74337e9c402d824a2e90eeb0b2e9f82fc670035973a18382c558","source":"amazon-inspector","versions":["20.2.9"],"id":"IN-MAL-2026-014702"}]},"references":[{"type":"PACKAGE","url":"https://www.npmjs.com/package/bnpl-blocks-independent-bnpl-search/v/20.2.9"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"bnpl-blocks-independent-bnpl-search","ecosystem":"npm","purl":"pkg:npm/bnpl-blocks-independent-bnpl-search"},"versions":["20.2.9"],"database_specific":{"indicators":{"evidence_files":[{"tlsh":"a7a1b79a16a971094bb0ebe4c7178416f55bf26333808281fb9ca5984f7302483b1efc","path":"_runtime.js","sha256":"cc7d0fc6ed8c55e518030eb370c8c90d630104f242b03608a71b35d20423238e"},{"path":"lib/telemetry.js","sha256":"da2e6958a1151859801ed43a526368200bf08b1902f2e157afef870c3561da4a","tlsh":"1e835055566a242186b2b368df234107ff3685272643429dbafc82dc1fbd72092a5ffc"}],"package_integrity":[{"filename":"bnpl-blocks-independent-bnpl-search-20.2.9.tgz","hashes":{"sha512_sri":"sha512-LbyurdD6WvBTz5qqdw7813OUOJYxaiLyhty4c6C7kpEoir4xA1mck5ZzxgqIpNIeYlS90TuKZA7ViIWUOLQFBQ==","sha1":"8ec135ce25ddc0f31fa193971b4d84df780ddeda"}}]},"source":"https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages/blob/main/osv/malicious/npm/bnpl-blocks-independent-bnpl-search/MAL-2026-12341.json","cwes":[{"cweId":"CWE-506","description":"The product contains code that appears to be malicious in nature.","name":"Embedded Malicious Code"}]}}],"schema_version":"1.8.0","credits":[{"name":"Amazon Inspector","contact":["inspector-research@amazon.com"],"type":"FINDER"}]}
