{"id":"MAL-2026-12194","summary":"Malicious code in simple-date-formatter-new-2 (npm)","details":"\n---\n_-= Per source details. The tarball additionally ships postinstall.js, which reads the installer's ~/.ssh directory, packages the filenames together with the local username and platform, and POSTs the JSON over HTTPS to the hardcoded IP 124.221.154.135:443/post; Chinese-language comments in that file describe stealing SSH keys and sending them to a C2. The benign facade contradicts the install-time behavior and the shipped stealer module.\n","modified":"2026-08-05T10:06:17.782920163Z","published":"2026-08-05T08:48:24Z","database_specific":{"malicious-packages-origins":[{"source":"amazon-inspector","versions":["1.0.0"],"id":"IN-MAL-2026-014424","import_time":"2026-08-05T09:28:09.585876852Z","modified_time":"2026-08-05T08:48:24Z","sha256":"1a752053edcc35b1de91b1eb5bb0a8b18e22ac32120f4b8871ecf84c3c4aec54"}]},"references":[{"type":"PACKAGE","url":"https://www.npmjs.com/package/simple-date-formatter-new-2/v/1.0.0"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"simple-date-formatter-new-2","ecosystem":"npm","purl":"pkg:npm/simple-date-formatter-new-2"},"versions":["1.0.0"],"database_specific":{"indicators":{"evidence_files":[{"sha256":"b4df8713cc4e79fdd7052d575cfe4c9d6458be3d21f3bb0ffb8cf3d4e3aac570","tlsh":"5411dc50f5246e7356cd89acbc9f8545ba82ae1f29913c4cd0c7883c62c59f6407df4b","path":"package.json"},{"tlsh":"273165d558f9cd3007778685639b91263102fe13650ee940f3c807a51fe9a5449f2dee","path":"postinstall.js","sha256":"f2be6940c08d36a7f1ce83d5fe16fefd8c14edda5d124e0f6406725beb5020ef"},{"tlsh":"8cc08c94a716b2866326122096a74100be5cc2300b9a6a62b88ec0c00144c12805ef8c","path":"index.js","sha256":"1d5404dbbd7f6a35142bc11e276bcff7b334f927a198399e6b0d9aa09ecfd098"}],"package_integrity":[{"hashes":{"sha1":"a44d3cc574ed713882277329a70aeed6a2e38a23","sha512_sri":"sha512-OnP1DE9Jb9yYV89YrkHUmyh12c3qzZGHLYW4muWp5yvL8ln61obBT4b5cEH38GSTfibkRoVXilr5lxK7hiflUA=="},"filename":"simple-date-formatter-new-2-1.0.0.tgz"}]},"cwes":[{"name":"Embedded Malicious Code","cweId":"CWE-506","description":"The product contains code that appears to be malicious in nature."}],"source":"https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages/blob/main/osv/malicious/npm/simple-date-formatter-new-2/MAL-2026-12194.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.8.0","credits":[{"name":"Amazon Inspector","contact":["inspector-research@amazon.com"],"type":"FINDER"}]}
