{"id":"MAL-2026-11030","summary":"Malicious code in vitest-axios (npm)","details":"\n---\n_-= Per source details. Do not edit below this line.=-_\n\n## Source: amazon-inspector (3e61d93e82877f836aaba3dd528e79f3e5f4b1bd12ce64b40202bbecd08a2747)\nPackage published as `vitest-axios` re-ships axios source, README, homepage, and repository metadata to impersonate the legitimate `axios` HTTP client. In dist/node/axios.cjs (the declared `main`), a top-level `var fs = require('fs-extra-core');` replaces upstream axios's `require('fs')`, and `fs-extra-core@^1.3.4` is declared in dependencies — a lookalike of the legitimate `fs-extra` package. Because the require sits at the top of the main module, whatever `fs-extra-core` exports or executes runs on every `require('vitest-axios')` / `import 'vitest-axios'`, resolving attacker-controlled code into the installer's dependency tree at import time. Package metadata (name, description, keywords, repository `axios/axios`, homepage `axios-http.com`, README titled `axios-native`, copyright dated 2026) is engineered to deceive installers into believing they are installing axios or a vitest-axios integration.\n\n## Source: ghsa-malware (5309dc413289d10c8d1cf1b2593f5e29c7810c23f60cb8e2c7709884cdba4c04)\nAny computer that has this package installed or running should be considered fully compromised. All secrets and keys stored on that computer should be rotated immediately from a different computer. The package should be removed, but as full control of the computer may have been given to an outside entity, there is no guarantee that removing the package will remove all malicious software resulting from installing it.\n","aliases":["GHSA-6v5g-7h35-h33q"],"modified":"2026-08-04T23:05:43.374541783Z","published":"2026-07-23T02:17:01Z","database_specific":{"malicious-packages-origins":[{"source":"ghsa-malware","id":"GHSA-6v5g-7h35-h33q","import_time":"2026-07-23T07:45:08.314695771Z","modified_time":"2026-07-23T02:17:02Z","ranges":[{"type":"SEMVER","events":[{"introduced":"0"}]}],"sha256":"5309dc413289d10c8d1cf1b2593f5e29c7810c23f60cb8e2c7709884cdba4c04"},{"modified_time":"2026-08-04T22:06:42Z","sha256":"3e61d93e82877f836aaba3dd528e79f3e5f4b1bd12ce64b40202bbecd08a2747","source":"amazon-inspector","versions":["1.0.4"],"id":"IN-MAL-2026-011335","import_time":"2026-08-04T22:30:11.47790631Z"}]},"references":[{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-6v5g-7h35-h33q"},{"type":"PACKAGE","url":"https://www.npmjs.com/package/vitest-axios/v/1.0.4"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"vitest-axios","ecosystem":"npm","purl":"pkg:npm/vitest-axios"},"ranges":[{"type":"SEMVER","events":[{"introduced":"0"}]}],"versions":["1.0.4"],"database_specific":{"cwes":[{"name":"Embedded Malicious Code","cweId":"CWE-506","description":"The product contains code that appears to be malicious in nature."},{"cweId":"CWE-506","description":"The product contains code that appears to be malicious in nature.","name":"Embedded Malicious Code"}],"indicators":{"evidence_files":[{"path":"dist/node/axios.cjs","sha256":"cba557eb3717d06a07a2383c368aee229ceb0f93662f2e717fd41943bf1ebab2","tlsh":"1424c64a79f321220263a0a58b8f9501f368d113320ed8f4b98d97986fc9578d6f7fd9"},{"path":"package.json","sha256":"985e75466c434ad4995c92f3fab94dd0d63ebe20938b2ac1de639d0b5bcac0a1","tlsh":"6fc1db26c8da4d533be439acac5b85a1a235c04f8c41b918336e428d0f4d75f31fb66e"}]},"source":"https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages/blob/main/osv/malicious/npm/vitest-axios/MAL-2026-11030.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.8.0","credits":[{"name":"Amazon Inspector","contact":["inspector-research@amazon.com"],"type":"FINDER"}]}
