{"id":"MAL-2026-10489","summary":"Malicious code in permcserver (npm)","details":"\n---\n_-= Per source details. Do not edit below this line.=-_\n\n## Source: amazon-inspector (cf9fcdfd2e40ddb8c0aef4fa0fb93f2d0bcf3b0c00104057076f8013a70812d6)\nThe package's `main` (index.js) is a 10-line FFI shim that spawns a worker, dlopens the bundled `lib-linux.so` via koffi, and immediately invokes the native entrypoint `vserver_start()`. The.so implements a VLESS-over-WebSocket proxy server: it performs the WebSocket handshake using the standard GUID `258EAFA5-E914-47DA-95CA-C5AB0DC85B11`, authenticates clients with a hardcoded UUID (`4916e0f58abc4ad4ba5d158582c60d85`), and services outbound `CONNECT %s HTTP/1.1` requests with SOCKS5/HTTP upstream proxy support — turning the installer's host into an attacker-authenticated TCP relay on the moment the package is required. The package exports no library API; starting the proxy listener is the sole effect of importing it. The binary also enumerates hosting-panel port environment variables (`PTERODACTYL_PORT`, `MC_PORT`, `MINECRAFT_PORT`, `GAME_PORT`) and embeds a decoy `:: SYSTEM ONLINE::` / `MINECRAFT SERVER` HTML page — cover-story content consistent with the package name's implied Pterodactyl/Minecraft server helper purpose, which does not match the actual proxy-backdoor payload. Symbol strings `vless_ws.c`, `relay_thread`, and `dial_tcp` are present in the stripped.so. Requiring or loading this package gives whoever knows the hardcoded UUID persistent, authenticated tunneling access through the installer's machine and the ability to execute arbitrary native code in the Node process.\n\n## Source: ghsa-malware (1894f90da699369d76bdc160b256685a80e12d5f690bcb5d929fea4f14e255ad)\nAny computer that has this package installed or running should be considered fully compromised. All secrets and keys stored on that computer should be rotated immediately from a different computer. The package should be removed, but as full control of the computer may have been given to an outside entity, there is no guarantee that removing the package will remove all malicious software resulting from installing it.\n","aliases":["GHSA-vjr2-cx8x-3q2x"],"modified":"2026-08-05T07:21:20.653324238Z","published":"2026-07-13T20:49:47Z","database_specific":{"malicious-packages-origins":[{"import_time":"2026-07-13T20:53:58.738788696Z","modified_time":"2026-07-13T20:49:47Z","sha256":"cf9fcdfd2e40ddb8c0aef4fa0fb93f2d0bcf3b0c00104057076f8013a70812d6","source":"amazon-inspector","versions":["1.0.1"],"id":"IN-MAL-2026-010309"},{"modified_time":"2026-07-13T20:50:13Z","sha256":"dd9b392525fac0b376208f49e1a1987d4e88b0a6fea87aba68fa516513189653","source":"amazon-inspector","versions":["1.0.0"],"id":"IN-MAL-2026-010312","import_time":"2026-07-13T20:53:58.855764002Z"},{"import_time":"2026-07-13T20:53:58.798567659Z","modified_time":"2026-07-13T20:50:06Z","sha256":"fb04ae4a79dfeb47b79a151515e99b725df34fbc6dfdef95ea9adfaf6a9eec66","source":"amazon-inspector","versions":["1.0.3"],"id":"IN-MAL-2026-010311"},{"source":"amazon-inspector","versions":["1.0.4"],"id":"IN-MAL-2026-010561","import_time":"2026-07-14T20:28:24.650221322Z","modified_time":"2026-07-14T20:15:39Z","sha256":"b9a0502b72422adc5b9c3db2ef71af010731eff3439e3e2e69efd1aeaddb6b44"},{"sha256":"1894f90da699369d76bdc160b256685a80e12d5f690bcb5d929fea4f14e255ad","source":"ghsa-malware","id":"GHSA-vjr2-cx8x-3q2x","import_time":"2026-07-27T09:43:03.851035406Z","modified_time":"2026-07-27T01:16:04Z","ranges":[{"events":[{"introduced":"0"}],"type":"SEMVER"}]},{"import_time":"2026-08-05T07:06:41.673444106Z","modified_time":"2026-08-05T06:07:32Z","sha256":"8afb96aa84baef163be6ba968d842bd342b00bb0e6118254a7623a16b17cb57a","source":"amazon-inspector","versions":["1.0.2"],"id":"IN-MAL-2026-013329"}]},"references":[{"type":"PACKAGE","url":"https://www.npmjs.com/package/permcserver/v/1.0.1"},{"type":"PACKAGE","url":"https://www.npmjs.com/package/permcserver/v/1.0.0"},{"type":"PACKAGE","url":"https://www.npmjs.com/package/permcserver/v/1.0.3"},{"type":"PACKAGE","url":"https://www.npmjs.com/package/permcserver/v/1.0.4"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/advisories/GHSA-vjr2-cx8x-3q2x"},{"type":"PACKAGE","url":"https://www.npmjs.com/package/permcserver/v/1.0.2"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"permcserver","ecosystem":"npm","purl":"pkg:npm/permcserver"},"ranges":[{"type":"SEMVER","events":[{"introduced":"0"}]}],"versions":["1.0.1","1.0.0","1.0.3","1.0.4","1.0.2"],"database_specific":{"source":"https://github.com/ossf/malicious-packages/blob/main/osv/malicious/npm/permcserver/MAL-2026-10489.json","cwes":[{"cweId":"CWE-506","description":"The product contains code that appears to be malicious in nature.","name":"Embedded Malicious Code"},{"cweId":"CWE-506","description":"The product contains code that appears to be malicious in nature.","name":"Embedded Malicious Code"},{"description":"The product contains code that appears to be malicious in nature.","name":"Embedded Malicious Code","cweId":"CWE-506"},{"name":"Embedded Malicious Code","cweId":"CWE-506","description":"The product contains code that appears to be malicious in nature."},{"cweId":"CWE-506","description":"The product contains code that appears to be malicious in nature.","name":"Embedded Malicious Code"},{"description":"The product contains code that appears to be malicious in nature.","name":"Embedded Malicious Code","cweId":"CWE-506"}],"indicators":{"evidence_files":[{"path":"index.js","sha256":"272d22563c77d876da8fed661d9ea4db03aeb84cfc955ee22b2d932076c8317b","tlsh":"08e0684103d15d1ab026a2859f3b8907145fa01723942a10f3ec81426ba308cb2338e4"},{"sha256":"8978c83feb0c4d072995295eb0ff2194dde2e4ef89795ff8e6ccd2aa91d665ee","tlsh":"7a03f91af090aa3ec8d0993046a7d6669271e0b4eb32073f769093f73dd77985d39e81","path":"lib-linux.so"}],"package_integrity":[{"filename":"permcserver-1.0.1.tgz","hashes":{"sha1":"dac0f2d2f4972f955ba4661b230556344c51d1e8","sha512_sri":"sha512-chJ/o/Ifejbcaf3lvEd+gEMWF/IDSWdfIXW+45/VYi4+xT7NS0r4/dGdN7cbX5PL64ipH5NxRANvwvjUj4ufwg=="}}]}}}],"schema_version":"1.8.0","credits":[{"name":"Amazon Inspector","contact":["inspector-research@amazon.com"],"type":"FINDER"}]}
