{"id":"JLSEC-2026-143","details":"OpenEXR provides the specification and reference implementation of the EXR file format, an image storage format for the motion picture industry. From 3.2.0 to before 3.2.7, 3.3.9, and 3.4.9, a misaligned memory write vulnerability exists in LossyDctDecoder_execute() in src/lib/OpenEXRCore/internal_dwa_decoder.h:749. When decoding a DWA or DWAB-compressed EXR file containing a FLOAT-type channel, the decoder performs an in-place HALF→FLOAT conversion by casting an unaligned uint8_t * row pointer to float * and writing through it. Because the row buffer may not be 4-byte aligned, this constitutes undefined behavior under the C standard and crashes immediately on architectures that enforce alignment (ARM, RISC-V, etc.). On x86 it is silently tolerated at runtime but remains exploitable via compiler optimizations that assume aligned access. This vulnerability is fixed in 3.2.7, 3.3.9, and 3.4.9.","modified":"2026-04-17T15:31:15.138104Z","published":"2026-04-17T15:19:54.657Z","upstream":["CVE-2026-34379"],"database_specific":{"sources":[{"modified":"2026-04-07T19:04:50.103Z","id":"CVE-2026-34379","html_url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-34379","url":"https://services.nvd.nist.gov/rest/json/cves/2.0?cveId=CVE-2026-34379","published":"2026-04-06T16:16:35.233Z","imported":"2026-04-17T13:59:24.607Z","database_specific":{"status":"Analyzed"}}],"license":"CC-BY-4.0"},"references":[{"type":"WEB","url":"https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/openexr/releases/tag/v3.2.7"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/openexr/releases/tag/v3.3.9"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/openexr/releases/tag/v3.4.9"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://github.com/AcademySoftwareFoundation/openexr/security/advisories/GHSA-w88v-vqhq-5p24"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"OpenEXR_jll","ecosystem":"Julia","purl":"pkg:julia/OpenEXR_jll?uuid=18a262bb-aa17-5467-a713-aee519bc75cb"},"ranges":[{"type":"SEMVER","events":[{"introduced":"3.1.4+0"},{"fixed":"3.4.9+0"}]}],"database_specific":{"source":"https://github.com/JuliaLang/SecurityAdvisories.jl/tree/generated/osv/2026/JLSEC-2026-143.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.7.5"}
