{"id":"CVE-2026-72330","summary":"net/tls: Consume empty data records in tls_sw_read_sock()","details":"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\nnet/tls: Consume empty data records in tls_sw_read_sock()\n\nA peer may send a zero-length TLS application_data record; TLS 1.3\nexplicitly permits these as a traffic-analysis countermeasure (RFC\n8446, Section 5.1). After decryption such a record has full_len ==\n0. tls_sw_read_sock() hands it to the read_actor, which has no\npayload to consume and returns zero. The loop treats a zero return\nas backpressure (used \u003c= 0), requeues the skb at the head of\nrx_list, and stops. rx_list is serviced head-first on the next\ncall, so the empty record is dequeued, fails the same way, and is\nrequeued again; every later record on the connection is blocked\nbehind it.\n\ntls_sw_recvmsg() does not stall on this: a zero-length data record\ncopies nothing and falls through to consume_skb(). Mirror that in\nthe read_sock() path by recognizing an empty data record before\nthe actor runs, consuming it, and continuing.","modified":"2026-08-18T03:56:24.214787329Z","published":"2026-08-15T05:55:40.555Z","database_specific":{"osv_generated_from":"https://github.com/CVEProject/cvelistV5/tree/main/cves/2026/72xxx/CVE-2026-72330.json","cna_assigner":"Linux"},"references":[{"type":"WEB","url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/0867b0f2513ebc1c475af9898c97f4772a68d964"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/3be28e2c9cd0230cb51fd4967df095273afd3848"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/c6b440cf766a557b08d25f1b571b3d57d039686e"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/e8a4c9fc437b16aef38f86ce3275677e36924259"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/ebc295ce343600c2d60c1e1e0c5d192080217457"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/CVEProject/cvelistV5/tree/main/cves/2026/72xxx/CVE-2026-72330.json"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-72330"},{"type":"PACKAGE","url":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git"}],"affected":[{"ranges":[{"type":"GIT","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","events":[{"introduced":"662fbcec32f4af6bdcf5b4006b792ebe9543d945"},{"fixed":"0867b0f2513ebc1c475af9898c97f4772a68d964"},{"fixed":"c6b440cf766a557b08d25f1b571b3d57d039686e"},{"fixed":"e8a4c9fc437b16aef38f86ce3275677e36924259"},{"fixed":"ebc295ce343600c2d60c1e1e0c5d192080217457"},{"fixed":"3be28e2c9cd0230cb51fd4967df095273afd3848"}]}],"database_specific":{"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/cve-osv-conversion/osv-output/CVE-2026-72330.json"}},{"package":{"name":"Kernel","ecosystem":"Linux"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"6.6.0"},{"fixed":"6.6.145"}]},{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"6.7.0"},{"fixed":"6.12.97"}]},{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"6.13.0"},{"fixed":"6.18.40"}]},{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"6.19.0"},{"fixed":"7.1.5"}]}],"database_specific":{"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/cve-osv-conversion/osv-output/CVE-2026-72330.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.9.0","severity":[{"type":"CVSS_V3","score":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H"}]}
