{"id":"CVE-2026-61820","summary":"pg_partman privilege escalation via SQL injection when inheriting template properties","details":"pg_partman is a PostgreSQL extension that manages partitioned tables by time or ID. Prior to 5.5.0, inherit_template_properties() manually surrounds primary-key column names from pg_attribute.attname with double quotes without escaping embedded double-quote characters. A partman_user who owns a template table can create a crafted column name that breaks out of the generated ALTER TABLE ADD PRIMARY KEY identifier when the background worker applies the key to a child partition. The generated SQL then executes with pg_partman_bgw.role privileges, which default to PostgreSQL superuser, permitting database-wide compromise and operating-system command execution as the PostgreSQL service account. The crafted catalog identifier persists until removed and can trigger again during later partition creation. This issue is fixed in version 5.5.0.","aliases":["GHSA-xqxh-6hh3-974m"],"modified":"2026-09-20T11:46:54.505808854Z","published":"2026-09-18T19:49:10.983Z","database_specific":{"cwe_ids":["CWE-89"],"osv_generated_from":"https://github.com/CVEProject/cvelistV5/tree/main/cves/2026/61xxx/CVE-2026-61820.json","cna_assigner":"GitHub_M"},"references":[{"type":"WEB","url":"https://github.com/pgpartman/pg_partman/releases/tag/v5.5.0"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/CVEProject/cvelistV5/tree/main/cves/2026/61xxx/CVE-2026-61820.json"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/pgpartman/pg_partman/security/advisories/GHSA-xqxh-6hh3-974m"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-61820"},{"type":"FIX","url":"https://github.com/pgpartman/pg_partman/commit/ba9405542acf24dd881845b935cab8b165854361"}],"affected":[{"ranges":[{"type":"GIT","repo":"https://github.com/pgpartman/pg_partman","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"ba9405542acf24dd881845b935cab8b165854361"},{"fixed":"f7e83b9c441c7e97066d815bbe14e02a9dc5ff94"}],"database_specific":{"extracted_events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"5.5.0"}],"source":["AFFECTED_FIELD","REFERENCES"]}}],"versions":["v5.4.3","v5.4.2","v5.4.1","v5.4.0","v5.3.1","v5.3.0","v5.3.0RC1","v5.2.4","v5.2.3","v5.2.2","v5.2.1","v5.2.0","v5.1.0","v5.0.1","v5.0.0","v4.7.1","v4.7.0","v4.6.2","v4.6.1","v4.6.0","v4.5.1","v4.5.0","v4.4.1","v4.4.0","v4.3.1","v4.3.0","v4.2.2","v4.2.1","v4.2.0","v4.1.0","v4.0.0","v3.2.1","v3.2.0","v3.1.3","v3.1.2","v3.1.1","v3.1.0","v3.0.2","v3.0.1","v2.6.4","v2.6.3","v2.6.2","v2.6.1","v2.6.0","v2.5.1","v2.5.0","v2.4.1","v2.4.0","v2.3.4","v2.3.3","v2.3.2","v2.3.1","v2.3.0","v2.2.3","v2.2.2","v2.2.1","v2.2.0","v2.1.0","v2.0.0","v1.8.7","v1.8.6","v1.8.5","v1.8.4","v1.8.3","v1.8.2","v1.8.1","v1.8.0","v1.7.2","v1.7.1","v1.7.0","v1.6.1","v1.6.0","v1.5.1","v1.5.0","v1.4.5","v1.4.4","v1.4.3","v1.4.1","v1.4.0","v1.3.0","v1.2.0","v1.1.0","v1.0.0","v0.4.2","v0.4.1","v0.4.0","v0.3.2","v0.3.1","v0.3.0","v0.2.0","v0.1.2","v0.1.1"],"database_specific":{"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/cve-osv-conversion/osv-output/CVE-2026-61820.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.9.0","severity":[{"type":"CVSS_V3","score":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:L/UI:N/S:C/C:H/I:H/A:H"}]}
