{"id":"CVE-2026-53142","summary":"drm/xe/display: fix oops in suspend/shutdown without display","details":"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\ndrm/xe/display: fix oops in suspend/shutdown without display\n\nThe xe driver keeps track of whether to probe display, and whether\ndisplay hardware is there, using xe-\u003einfo.probe_display. It gets set to\nfalse if there's no display after intel_display_device_probe(). However,\nthe display may also be disabled via fuses, detected at a later time in\nintel_display_device_info_runtime_init().\n\nIn this case, the xe driver does for_each_intel_crtc() on uninitialized\nmode config in xe_display_flush_cleanup_work(), leading to a NULL\npointer dereference, and generally calls display code with display info\ncleared.\n\nCheck for intel_display_device_present() after\nintel_display_device_info_runtime_init(), and reset\nxe-\u003einfo.probe_display as necessary. Also do unset_display_features()\nfor completeness, although display runtime init has already done\nthat. This will need to be unified across all cases later.\n\nMove intel_display_device_info_runtime_init() call slightly earlier,\nsimilar to i915, to avoid a bunch of unnecessary setup for no display\ncases.\n\nNote #1: The xe driver has no business doing low level display plumbing\nlike for_each_intel_crtc() to begin with. It all needs to happen in\ndisplay code.\n\nNote #2: The actual bug is present already in commit 44e694958b95\n(\"drm/xe/display: Implement display support\"), but the oops was likely\nintroduced later at commit ddf6492e0e50 (\"drm/xe/display: Make display\nsuspend/resume work on discrete\").\n\n(cherry picked from commit 7c3eb9f47533220888a67266448185fd0775d4da)","modified":"2026-07-15T01:49:13.835428844Z","published":"2026-06-25T08:38:30.158Z","related":["CGA-48p3-4835-j8fv"],"database_specific":{"cna_assigner":"Linux","osv_generated_from":"https://github.com/CVEProject/cvelistV5/tree/main/cves/2026/53xxx/CVE-2026-53142.json"},"references":[{"type":"WEB","url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/0f68ddfaaebfbb5581ee931779757d31f4dc9e24"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/238bcdaae8f2abc65e182de7d1f69cf8f611a610"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/68938cc08e23a94fd881e845837ff918de005ce7"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://git.kernel.org/stable/c/ddf1fe4c043aa42e46aef87b815d5deeed2fcd7b"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/CVEProject/cvelistV5/tree/main/cves/2026/53xxx/CVE-2026-53142.json"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-53142"},{"type":"PACKAGE","url":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git"}],"affected":[{"ranges":[{"type":"GIT","repo":"https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git","events":[{"introduced":"44e694958b95395bd1c41508c88c8ca141bf9bd7"},{"fixed":"ddf1fe4c043aa42e46aef87b815d5deeed2fcd7b"},{"fixed":"0f68ddfaaebfbb5581ee931779757d31f4dc9e24"},{"fixed":"238bcdaae8f2abc65e182de7d1f69cf8f611a610"},{"fixed":"68938cc08e23a94fd881e845837ff918de005ce7"}]}],"database_specific":{"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/cve-osv-conversion/osv-output/CVE-2026-53142.json"}},{"package":{"name":"Kernel","ecosystem":"Linux"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"6.8.0"},{"fixed":"6.12.95"}]},{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"6.13.0"},{"fixed":"6.18.36"}]},{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"6.19.0"},{"fixed":"7.0.13"}]}],"database_specific":{"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/cve-osv-conversion/osv-output/CVE-2026-53142.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.7.5"}
