{"id":"CVE-2026-44710","summary":"pam_usb: NULL pointer dereference from UDisks device fields causes PAM crash and login denial-of-service","details":"pam_usb provides hardware authentication for Linux using ordinary removable media. Prior to 0.8.7, src/device.c passed the return values of udisks_drive_get_serial(), udisks_drive_get_vendor(), and udisks_drive_get_model() directly to strcmp() without NULL checks. The GIO/UDisks API documentation states these accessors can return NULL for devices that do not expose the corresponding field. Passing NULL to strcmp() is undefined behaviour (typically a SIGSEGV). This vulnerability is fixed in 0.8.7.","aliases":["GHSA-j8cq-2gv6-gfwf"],"modified":"2026-07-08T08:13:28.286549586Z","published":"2026-05-27T20:19:35.374Z","database_specific":{"cna_assigner":"GitHub_M","osv_generated_from":"https://github.com/CVEProject/cvelistV5/tree/main/cves/2026/44xxx/CVE-2026-44710.json","cwe_ids":["CWE-476"]},"references":[{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/CVEProject/cvelistV5/tree/main/cves/2026/44xxx/CVE-2026-44710.json"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/mcdope/pam_usb/security/advisories/GHSA-j8cq-2gv6-gfwf"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-44710"}],"affected":[{"ranges":[{"type":"GIT","repo":"https://github.com/mcdope/pam_usb","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"987f4f6ddf0a8c75ddd5f05b19b863220efe9005"}],"database_specific":{"extracted_events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"0.8.7"}],"source":"AFFECTED_FIELD"}}],"versions":["0.8.4","0.8.3","v0.8.0","0.7.3","0.7.2","0.7.1","v0.7.0","0.5.0"],"database_specific":{"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/cve-osv-conversion/osv-output/CVE-2026-44710.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.7.5","severity":[{"type":"CVSS_V3","score":"CVSS:3.1/AV:P/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:N/A:H"}]}
