{"id":"CVE-2026-22212","summary":"TinyOS \u003c= 2.1.2 Stack-Based Buffer Overflow in mcp2200gpio","details":"TinyOS versions up to and including 2.1.2 contain a stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability in the mcp2200gpio utility. The vulnerability is caused by unsafe use of strcpy() and strcat() functions when constructing device paths during automatic device discovery. A local attacker can exploit this by creating specially crafted filenames under /dev/usb/, leading to stack memory corruption and application crashes.","modified":"2026-08-12T03:51:41.194194055Z","published":"2026-01-12T23:02:45.973Z","database_specific":{"cna_assigner":"VulnCheck","cwe_ids":["CWE-121"],"osv_generated_from":"https://github.com/CVEProject/cvelistV5/tree/main/cves/2026/22xxx/CVE-2026-22212.json"},"references":[{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/CVEProject/cvelistV5/tree/main/cves/2026/22xxx/CVE-2026-22212.json"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-22212"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://www.vulncheck.com/advisories/tinyos-stack-based-buffer-overflow-in-mcp2200gpio"},{"type":"PACKAGE","url":"https://github.com/tinyos/tinyos-main"},{"type":"EVIDENCE","url":"https://seclists.org/fulldisclosure/2026/Jan/14"}],"affected":[{"ranges":[{"type":"GIT","repo":"https://github.com/tinyos/tinyos-main","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"last_affected":"a2d4e21d9c4d13bbfb468544d9ccfdabbf3960af"}],"database_specific":{"source":"AFFECTED_FIELD","extracted_events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"last_affected":"2.1.2"}]}}],"versions":["release_tinyos_2_1_2"],"database_specific":{"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/cve-osv-conversion/osv-output/CVE-2026-22212.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.9.0","severity":[{"type":"CVSS_V4","score":"CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:N/PR:L/UI:N/VC:N/VI:N/VA:L/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N"}]}
