{"id":"CVE-2025-1125","details":"When reading data from a hfs filesystem, grub's hfs filesystem module uses user-controlled parameters from the filesystem metadata to calculate the internal buffers size, however it misses to properly check for integer overflows. A maliciouly crafted filesystem may lead some of those buffer size calculation to overflow, causing it to perform a grub_malloc() operation with a smaller size than expected. As a result the hfsplus_open_compressed_real() function will write past of the internal buffer length. This flaw may be leveraged to corrupt grub's internal critical data and may result in arbitrary code execution by-passing secure boot protections.","modified":"2026-03-23T05:06:42.739280Z","published":"2025-03-03T15:15:16.300Z","related":["SUSE-SU-2025:01961-1","SUSE-SU-2025:0586-1","SUSE-SU-2025:0587-1","SUSE-SU-2025:0588-1","SUSE-SU-2025:0607-1","SUSE-SU-2025:0629-1","SUSE-SU-2025:20511-1","SUSE-SU-2025:20863-1","openSUSE-SU-2025:14822-1"],"references":[{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2025-1125"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/grub-devel/2025-02/msg00024.html"},{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2346138"}],"affected":[{"database_specific":{"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/cve-osv-conversion/osv-output/CVE-2025-1125.json","unresolved_ranges":[{"events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"last_affected":"2.12"}]}]}}],"schema_version":"1.7.5","severity":[{"type":"CVSS_V3","score":"CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H"}]}
