{"id":"CVE-2024-22208","summary":"phpMyFAQ sharing FAQ functionality can easily be abused for phishing purposes","details":"phpMyFAQ is an Open Source FAQ web application for PHP 8.1+ and MySQL, PostgreSQL and other databases. The 'sharing FAQ' functionality allows any unauthenticated actor to misuse the phpMyFAQ application to send arbitrary emails to a large range of targets. The phpMyFAQ application has a functionality where anyone can share a FAQ item to others. The front-end of this functionality allows any phpMyFAQ articles to be shared with 5 email addresses. Any unauthenticated actor can perform this action. There is a CAPTCHA in place, however the amount of people you email with a single request is not limited to 5 by the backend. An attacker can thus solve a single CAPTCHA and send thousands of emails at once. An attacker can utilize the target application's email server to send phishing messages. This can get the server on a blacklist, causing all emails to end up in spam. It can also lead to reputation damages. This issue has been patched in version 3.2.5.","aliases":["GHSA-9hhf-xmcw-r3xg"],"modified":"2026-08-12T03:51:30.198193846Z","published":"2024-02-05T20:44:23.236Z","database_specific":{"osv_generated_from":"https://github.com/CVEProject/cvelistV5/tree/main/cves/2024/22xxx/CVE-2024-22208.json","cna_assigner":"GitHub_M","cwe_ids":["CWE-863"]},"references":[{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/CVEProject/cvelistV5/tree/main/cves/2024/22xxx/CVE-2024-22208.json"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://github.com/thorsten/phpMyFAQ/security/advisories/GHSA-9hhf-xmcw-r3xg"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2024-22208"},{"type":"FIX","url":"https://github.com/thorsten/phpMyFAQ/commit/a34d94ab7b1be9256a9ef898f18ea6bfb63f6f1e"}],"affected":[{"ranges":[{"type":"GIT","repo":"https://github.com/thorsten/phpmyfaq","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"ee05654763ef0f16137d3bd21ec50e2f21ffb8f8"},{"fixed":"a34d94ab7b1be9256a9ef898f18ea6bfb63f6f1e"}],"database_specific":{"extracted_events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"3.2.5"}],"source":["CPE_RANGE","REFERENCES"],"cpe":"cpe:2.3:a:phpmyfaq:phpmyfaq:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*"}}],"versions":["3.2.4","3.2.3","3.2.2","3.2.1","3.2.0","3.2.0-RC.4","3.2.0-RC.2","3.2.0-RC","3.2.0-beta.2","3.2.0-beta","3.2.0-alpha","3.1.0-RC","3.1.0-beta","3.1.0-alpha.3","3.1.0-alpha.2","3.1.0-alpha","3.0.0-beta.3","3.0.0-beta.2","3.0.0-beta","3.0.0-alpha.4","3.0.0-alpha.3","3.0.0-alpha.2","3.0.0-alpha","2.10.0-alpha","2.9.0","2.9.0-RC4","2.9.0-RC3","2.9.0-RC2","2.9.0-RC","2.9.0-beta2","2.9.0-beta","2.9.0-alpha4","2.9.0-alpha3","2.9.0-alpha2","2.9.0-alpha","2.8.2","2.8.1","2.8.0","2.8.0-RC4","2.8.0-RC3","2.8.0-RC2","2.8.0-RC","2.8.0-beta3","2.8.0-beta2","2.8.0-beta","2.8.0-alpha3","2.8.0-alpha2","2.7.0-RC","2.7.0-beta3","2.7.0-beta2","2.7.0-beta","2.7.0-alpha2","2.7.0-alpha","2.6.7","2.6.6","2.6.5","2.6.4","2.6.3","2.6.2","2.6.1","2.6.0","2.6.0-RC","2.6.0-beta","2.6.0-alpha"],"database_specific":{"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/cve-osv-conversion/osv-output/CVE-2024-22208.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.9.0","severity":[{"type":"CVSS_V3","score":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:L"}]}
