{"id":"CVE-2020-8897","details":"A weak robustness vulnerability exists in the AWS Encryption SDKs for Java, Python, C and Javalcript prior to versions 2.0.0. Due to the non-committing property of AES-GCM (and other AEAD ciphers such as AES-GCM-SIV or (X)ChaCha20Poly1305) used by the SDKs to encrypt messages, an attacker can craft a unique cyphertext which will decrypt to multiple different results, and becomes especially relevant in a multi-recipient setting. We recommend users update their SDK to 2.0.0 or later.","aliases":["GHSA-wqgp-vphw-hphf","PYSEC-2020-261"],"modified":"2026-03-13T22:14:01.507130Z","published":"2020-11-16T12:15:14.557Z","related":["GHSA-wqgp-vphw-hphf"],"references":[{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/security/improved-client-side-encryption-explicit-keyids-and-key-commitment/"},{"type":"EVIDENCE","url":"https://github.com/google/security-research/security/advisories/GHSA-wqgp-vphw-hphf"}],"affected":[{"ranges":[{"type":"GIT","repo":"https://github.com/aws/aws-encryption-sdk-java","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"b54780f0c1faac6c9e0a27880e12b0d2623bae67"}],"database_specific":{"versions":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"2.0.0"}]}}],"versions":["0.0.1","0.0.1-SNAPSHOT","1.3.0","1.3.1","1.3.3","1.3.4","1.3.5","1.3.6","1.4.0","1.4.1","1.5.0","1.6.0","1.6.1","1.6.2","v1.7.0"],"database_specific":{"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/cve-osv-conversion/osv-output/CVE-2020-8897.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.7.5","severity":[{"type":"CVSS_V3","score":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:L/PR:L/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N"}]}
