{"id":"BIT-postgresql-2024-10977","summary":"PostgreSQL libpq retains an error message from man-in-the-middle","details":"Client use of server error message in PostgreSQL allows a server not trusted under current SSL or GSS settings to furnish arbitrary non-NUL bytes to the libpq application.  For example, a man-in-the-middle attacker could send a long error message that a human or screen-scraper user of psql mistakes for valid query results.  This is probably not a concern for clients where the user interface unambiguously indicates the boundary between one error message and other text.  Versions before PostgreSQL 17.1, 16.5, 15.9, 14.14, 13.17, and 12.21 are affected.","aliases":["CVE-2024-10977"],"modified":"2025-11-06T13:25:46.476Z","published":"2024-11-16T07:16:52.278Z","database_specific":{"severity":"Low","cpes":["cpe:2.3:a:postgresql:postgresql:*:*:*:*:*:*:*:*"]},"references":[{"type":"WEB","url":"https://www.postgresql.org/support/security/CVE-2024-10977/"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2024-10977"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://lists.debian.org/debian-lts-announce/2024/11/msg00011.html"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"postgresql","ecosystem":"Bitnami","purl":"pkg:bitnami/postgresql"},"ranges":[{"type":"SEMVER","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"12.21.0"},{"introduced":"13.0.0"},{"fixed":"13.17.0"},{"introduced":"14.0.0"},{"fixed":"14.14.0"},{"introduced":"15.0.0"},{"fixed":"15.9.0"},{"introduced":"16.0.0"},{"fixed":"16.5.0"},{"introduced":"17.0.0"},{"fixed":"17.1.0"}]}],"database_specific":{"source":"https://github.com/bitnami/vulndb/tree/main/data/postgresql/BIT-postgresql-2024-10977.json"},"severity":[{"type":"CVSS_V3","score":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:N/I:L/A:N"}]}],"schema_version":"1.7.3"}
