{"id":"BIT-node-2021-44531","details":"Accepting arbitrary Subject Alternative Name (SAN) types, unless a PKI is specifically defined to use a particular SAN type, can result in bypassing name-constrained intermediates. Node.js \u003c 12.22.9, \u003c 14.18.3, \u003c 16.13.2, and \u003c 17.3.1 was accepting URI SAN types, which PKIs are often not defined to use. Additionally, when a protocol allows URI SANs, Node.js did not match the URI correctly.Versions of Node.js with the fix for this disable the URI SAN type when checking a certificate against a hostname. This behavior can be reverted through the --security-revert command-line option.","aliases":["BIT-node-min-2021-44531","CVE-2021-44531"],"modified":"2025-04-03T14:40:37.652Z","published":"2024-03-06T11:05:06.086Z","database_specific":{"severity":"High","cpes":["cpe:2.3:a:nodejs:node.js:*:*:*:*:-:*:*:*"]},"references":[{"type":"WEB","url":"https://hackerone.com/reports/1429694"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://nodejs.org/en/blog/vulnerability/jan-2022-security-releases/"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://security.netapp.com/advisory/ntap-20220325-0007/"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://www.debian.org/security/2022/dsa-5170"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://www.oracle.com/security-alerts/cpuapr2022.html"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://www.oracle.com/security-alerts/cpujul2022.html"},{"type":"WEB","url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2021-44531"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"node","ecosystem":"Bitnami","purl":"pkg:bitnami/node"},"ranges":[{"type":"SEMVER","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"12.22.9"},{"introduced":"14.0.0"},{"fixed":"14.18.3"},{"introduced":"16.0.0"},{"fixed":"16.13.2"},{"introduced":"17.0.0"},{"fixed":"17.3.1"}]}],"database_specific":{"source":"https://github.com/bitnami/vulndb/tree/main/data/node/BIT-node-2021-44531.json"},"severity":[{"type":"CVSS_V3","score":"CVSS:3.1/AV:N/AC:H/PR:N/UI:N/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:N"}]}],"schema_version":"1.7.3"}
