{"id":"AZL-86751","summary":"CVE-2026-42304 affecting package python-twisted for versions less than 22.10.0-5","details":"Twisted is an event-based framework for internet applications, supporting Python 3.6+. Prior to 26.4.0rc2, the twisted.names module is vulnerable to a Denial of Service (DoS) attack via resource exhaustion during DNS name decompression. A remote, unauthenticated attacker can exploit this by sending a crafted TCP DNS packet containing deeply chained compression pointers. This flaw bypasses previous loop-prevention logic, causing the single-threaded Twisted reactor to hang while processing millions of recursive lookups, effectively freezing the server. This vulnerability is fixed in 26.4.0rc2.","modified":"2026-08-30T05:26:50Z","published":"2026-05-13T21:16:46Z","upstream":["CVE-2026-42304"],"references":[{"type":"WEB","url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-42304"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"python-twisted","ecosystem":"Azure Linux:3","purl":"pkg:rpm/azure-linux/python-twisted"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"22.10.0-5"}]}],"database_specific":{"source":"https://github.com/microsoft/AzureLinuxVulnerabilityData/blob/main/osv/AZL-86751.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.9.0"}
