{"id":"AZL-110906","summary":"CVE-2026-99037 affecting package kernel 6.6.157.1-1","details":"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\ndm-crypt: reject the lmk IV mode with AEAD ciphers\n\nA \"capi:\" table line that pairs an AEAD cipher with the lmk IV mode,\nfor example \"capi:gcm(aes)-lmk\" with the integrity:28:aead option,\ncauses an oops when it is loaded. lmk sets tfms_count to 64, but\ncrypt_alloc_tfms_aead only allocates one transform, so crypt_setkey\nreads past the end of the tfms_aead array and calls crypto_aead_setkey\non the values it finds there.\n\nlmk exists for compatibility with Loop-AES, which uses CBC, so refuse\nit with an AEAD cipher rather than allocate 64 AEAD transforms. The\ncheck cannot go in crypt_iv_lmk_ctr with the other lmk checks, because\nthe IV constructor runs after crypt_set_key.\n\nNote that this is not a security bug because the memory corruption can\nonly be triggered by root.","modified":"2026-10-25T05:30:37Z","published":"2026-10-23T13:17:26Z","upstream":["CVE-2026-99037"],"references":[{"type":"WEB","url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-99037"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"kernel","ecosystem":"Azure Linux:3","purl":"pkg:rpm/azure-linux/kernel"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"last_affected":"6.6.157.1-1"}]}],"database_specific":{"source":"https://github.com/microsoft/AzureLinuxVulnerabilityData/blob/main/osv/AZL-110906.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.9.0"}
