{"id":"AZL-108723","summary":"CVE-2026-98856 affecting package kernel 6.6.157.1-1","details":"In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved:\n\nkprobes: Skip disarmed probes when checking optkprobe overlap\n\nOn x86, an optkprobe at A replaces five bytes with a jump. If a disabled\nprobe B is at A+2, get_optimized_kprobe() stops at B when arming a new\nprobe C at A+4. It leaves A optimized:\n\n              A    A+1  A+2  A+3  A+4\n  A's jump  | e9 | d0 | d1 | d2 | d3 |\n  after C   | e9 | d0 | d1 | d2 | cc |\n\nThe INT3 for C overwrites the last byte of A's jump displacement, so\nexecution can jump to the wrong address. B can have prepared optinsns\nwhile disarmed, but has no jump to unoptimize.\n\nContinue past disarmed and unprepared probes to find the active optimized\nprobe before arming a probe in its jump.","modified":"2026-10-19T14:16:49.183126789Z","published":"2026-10-18T16:17:40Z","upstream":["CVE-2026-98856"],"references":[{"type":"WEB","url":"https://nvd.nist.gov/vuln/detail/CVE-2026-98856"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"kernel","ecosystem":"Azure Linux:3","purl":"pkg:rpm/azure-linux/kernel"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"last_affected":"6.6.157.1-1"}]}],"database_specific":{"source":"https://github.com/microsoft/AzureLinuxVulnerabilityData/blob/main/osv/AZL-108723.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.9.0"}
