{"id":"ALSA-2024:9188","summary":"Low: bpftrace security update","details":"BPFtrace is a high-level tracing language for Linux enhanced Berkeley Packet Filter (eBPF) available in recent Linux kernels (4.x). BPFtrace uses LLVM as a backend to compile scripts to BPF-bytecode and makes use of BCC for interacting with the Linux BPF system, as well as existing Linux tracing capabilities: kernel dynamic tracing (kprobes), user-level dynamic tracing (uprobes), and tracepoints. The BPFtrace language is inspired by awk and C, and predecessor tracers such as DTrace and SystemTap  \n\nSecurity Fix(es):  \n\n  * bpftrace: unprivileged users can force loading of compromised linux headers (CVE-2024-2313)\n\n\nFor more details about the security issue(s), including the impact, a CVSS score, acknowledgments, and other related information, refer to the CVE page(s) listed in the References section.  \n\nAdditional Changes:  \n\nFor detailed information on changes in this release, see the AlmaLinux Release Notes linked from the References section.\n","modified":"2026-02-04T03:58:02.600761Z","published":"2024-11-12T00:00:00Z","related":["CVE-2024-2313"],"references":[{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://access.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2024:9188"},{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://access.redhat.com/security/cve/CVE-2024-2313"},{"type":"REPORT","url":"https://bugzilla.redhat.com/2269014"},{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://errata.almalinux.org/9/ALSA-2024-9188.html"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"bpftrace","ecosystem":"AlmaLinux:9","purl":"pkg:rpm/almalinux/bpftrace"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"0.21.1-1.el9"}]}],"database_specific":{"source":"https://github.com/AlmaLinux/osv-database/blob/master/advisories/almalinux9/ALSA-2024:9188.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.7.3"}
