{"id":"ALPINE-CVE-2026-62268","details":"borgbackup is an opensource, deduplicating archiver with compression and authenticated encryption. Prior to 1.4.5 and 2.0.0b22, extracting a malicious archive can follow a symlinked parent path or resolve embedded dot-dot path components and delete or overwrite files outside the extraction directory. A crafted slave hardlink can also use an attacker-controlled hardlink source outside the extraction directory and hard-link that file into the restored tree, disclosing its contents. Creating the malicious archive requires repository access and, for encrypted or authenticated repositories, the Borg key and passphrase; a victim must then extract the archive. This issue is fixed in versions 1.4.5 and 2.0.0b22.","modified":"2026-11-06T09:30:02.948773691Z","published":"2026-11-05T21:18:52.133Z","upstream":["CVE-2026-62268"],"references":[{"type":"ADVISORY","url":"https://security.alpinelinux.org/vuln/CVE-2026-62268"}],"affected":[{"package":{"name":"borgbackup","ecosystem":"Alpine:v3.24","purl":"pkg:apk/alpine/borgbackup?arch=source"},"ranges":[{"type":"ECOSYSTEM","events":[{"introduced":"0"},{"fixed":"1.4.5-r0"}]}],"ecosystem_specific":{},"database_specific":{"source":"https://storage.googleapis.com/cve-osv-conversion/alpine/ALPINE-CVE-2026-62268.json"}}],"schema_version":"1.9.2","severity":[{"type":"CVSS_V4","score":"CVSS:4.0/AV:L/AC:L/AT:P/PR:H/UI:A/VC:H/VI:H/VA:N/SC:N/SI:N/SA:N/E:X/CR:X/IR:X/AR:X/MAV:X/MAC:X/MAT:X/MPR:X/MUI:X/MVC:X/MVI:X/MVA:X/MSC:X/MSI:X/MSA:X/S:X/AU:X/R:X/V:X/RE:X/U:X"}]}
